P2S’s Wishes

P2S are learning more about Rights Respecting Schools and as part of that are having ‘R Time’ once a week to learn how to talk to each other nicely and respects other peoples opinions.

Today they were told Miss Slamin could grant them 2 wishes with her magic wand.  They had to discuss it with a partner and then share with the whole class.

Here is what they wished for –

Craig – An Audi and his Pops to come back

Courtney – A computer and her cousin’s Nanny to visit

Molly – Lots more books and to go on holiday to Florida for 1 week

Ben – Sweets and it to be his birthday every day

Ava – Grandad Bob to be alive and a limousine

Chloe – Chocolate and Abbi Jean to come back

Abbi – Camera and a computer

Ciaran – Chocolate and a teddy

Slumber Party

To celebrate the end of our Day and Night topic as well as reaching the final stages of our Sun, Moon and Stars topic we had a P2 Slumber Party!

Everyone wore their pyjamas, we watched a movie, had a quiet reading time and enjoyed our midnight feasts (yummy snacks from the Fairtrade tuck shop!)

Tasty 3D Cubes!

P2S were set a challenge to work as a team and work out how to make a 3D cube using only toothpicks and marshamallows.

Each team decided which job each person should have, a timekeeper to check the clock, a facilitator to help others, a quality checker to ensure fairness and keep everyone on track and a reporter to share at the end, with the rest of the class, how their group managed it.

Miss Slamin set aside 15 minutes for this challenge but they only needed 5!

Lots of discussion went on about corners, sides, faces, 3D, squares, same size, equal… and the groups were working like real mathematicians.

3D Junk Models – Space Shuttles

Check out our Topic 3 page to look at photographs of the class designing and creating their very own space shuttles, using only junk!

After they were finished we had a museum in the class to go and explore other peoples models and evaluate them using descriptive words.

Here’s what we all thought, do you agree…

Erin – fandabbydozy!

Eva – pointy bits, really good, fantastic and can’t believe we made all of them using JUST junk.

Abbi – Wee Bobby dazzler (sounds like Hamish McHaggis to me!)

Jaden – So good he was going to faint.

Jamie – didn’t expect them to be so good and we must have all used our imaginations.

Ciaran – Awesome.

Aaron – Really good.

Kaleah – Great.

Courtney – Nice.

Shannon – Brilliant, good job everyone!

Megan B – Gorgeous.

Eve – Better than any rocket in the whole world.

Molly – Lots of detail.

Faikah – Rosey and nice. Making models of Olympic stadiums in P1 must have helped and we have learned something!

Ava – Twice as good as Miss Slamin’s.

Megan G – Excellent!

Lewis – Shiny, colourful and amazing.

Calvin – Aweeeeessooooommmmeeeee!

Go have a look! They really are as great as we’ve said. Parents and carers will get a closer look at them during Parents Consultations as they are displayed outside our class.

Burns Celebrations

This week we will be tasting Scottish food, learning tradional Scottish songs and dances and reading stories and poems in Scots.

P2S were brilliant at reading 2 Scots stories –

The Wee Wee Moose

Here is a wee hoose. In the wee hoose lives a wee wee moose. The wee wee moose sees the big cheese. The wee wee moose sees the big muckle cat!

Ma Teddy’s Bumped His Heid!

Ma teddy’s bumped his heid, my teddy’s heid is sair. A’ll put a clootie roon it an show him that a care. Ma teddy’s heid is better. A’ll row the clootie up an we’ll drink pretend het chocolate frae teddy’s favourite cup.

The pupils worked in groups to make sense of the words and illustrate their stories using the words to help them.

We also had a Scottish afternoon making tartan kilts using cars and paint, tasting Scottish food like Irn Bru, oatcakes and cheese  and making little paper Pipers.

We learned some Scottish songs such as Wee Willie Winkie and Roon and Roon the Gairden.

Our very own Eve had practised reading The Gruffalo completely in Scots. She was very kind (and brave) and read the WHOLE book to the class. They were a super audience.
