Over the last few weeks our context for learning has been all about ‘castle adventures’. We introduced our castle into our physical area within the nursery and provided the children with dressing up costumes such as knights, princesses and horses so they could act our fairy tales within the castle.
Mrs Bett helped some children within the quiet room to create their own castles using junk modelling; they used empty tissue boxes, kitchen roll tubes, yoghurt pots and created their very own flags to place on top of their castle. Fantastic Job!
The children have been really enjoying the experience of castles and traditional tales, some small groups have been reading all about Jack and the beanstalks, and have even planted their own bean into cotton wool to watch it grow – hopefully they grow really tall. The children have also been discussing what they need to do to ensure their beans grow; ED told us “it needs lots of water to grow tall”.
Other small groups of children have been reading traditional tales of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Rapunzel. We have also been practicing traditional nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty. To extend learning we will be exploring more fairy tale adventures. Keep an eye on our parents’ board for fun things to do at home.
The children also took part in World Book Day on 8th March – dressing up as a character from their favourite storybook we had a variety of costumes from; my granny is a pirate, superheroes, princess and sharing a shell.
