Primary 7 Outdoor Learning Fractions session

Primary 7 are currently learning about fractions and how we can use them in all sorts of different ways.  On a lovely cold and frosty morning, we went outside to try and create a number line where we put a series of fractions with different denominators into the correct order.  We found this quite a challenge!  Working in teams of 4 or 5, Mrs Dunlop gave us a pack of 30 different fractions which we had to work together to sort out.  We had to use our multiplication skills to work out common denominators to allow us to compare some fractions, and we had to use our communication and listening skills to work together effectively as a group to sort the fractions out correctly.  As you can see from the pictures below, there is some serious discussion happening over where each fraction card needs to be.  We enjoyed taking our learning outside.
