Comic Fun in Primary 3

This week Primary 3 have been learning all about comics. They have looked at different examples of comics and identified common traits of a comic. They created their own individual versions of a comic, making use of “Wow” words and learning what is meant by onomoatopoeia and alliteration (feel free to ask if they can remember what these are!). They have also been working with some buddies from the P6 class who have been helping the children to create their own online version of a comic using a package called Comic Life. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about comics and look forward to sharing their creations with you if you are able to come and join us for the handing out of the Read, Write, Count bags.

In Maths, the children have been working hard to learn how to tell the time on analogue clocks for ‘o’ clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour. It would be really helpful if you could encourage your child to tell you the time at various points throughout the day. Next week we will be looking at digital time and making the links between analogue and digital time. The class have already come up with many examples of places where they might find digital time displays, and their challenge for the weekend is to count up how many different examples of digital time they can find in their home.

Our focus for Health & Well Being this week has been “Buckets of Kindness”, related to our Keeping Connected unit of Building Resilience. We read a story called “Have You Filled a Bucket Today” by Carol McCloud which told us about the invisible buckets we all carry around with us. We learned that if we are kind to other people then we are filling both their bucket and our own bucket and we feel good about ourselves. We decided that we wanted to be bucket fillers and not bucket dippers in Primary 3. We decorated our own little mini buckets which we will have on display in Primary 3 and we will be working hard to make sure that everyone has a full bucket.

We finished off our topic work by creating posters in our groups which demonstrated 3 facts we had learned about 3 different types of renewable energy. We have learnt lots about climate change and why it is so important for us to look after the planet and look for clean, renewable forms of energy.

Have a great weekend.
