This week we have focusing on our fine motor skills whilst creating lots of fantastic firework pictures in the run up to Guy Fawkes night. The children helped cut tissue paper holders to use to dip in the paint and print onto black paper. The children have also been displaying great mark making skills by using different coloured chalks onto black paper. Some great role play has been observed whilst using the bonfire area within the nursery, where the opportunity has been taken to discuss the importance of keeping ourselves safe around a fire.

The children took full advantage of the wet weather in the garden, having lots of fun jumping and cycling through the big puddle that appeared!

Outdoor play is a huge part of the children’s learning and development and outdoors is available for children in all weathers.

Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,

The first one said, ‘My, its getting late!’

The second one said,’There are witches in the air!’,

The third one said, ‘Well, I don’t care!’

The fourth one said,’Let’s run and run and run!’

The fifth one said, ‘Halloween is fun!’

Whooosh went the wind and out (clap hands) went the light.

And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

The Nursery children also joined up with the Primary 6’s to take part in a community litter pick.

This week the children in Inveralmond and Ladywell Nursery have continued to explore the roll of a hairdresser. Lots of great role play and sharing skills demonstrated throughout the children’s play. Some children shared their thoughts and experiences of going to the hairdressers and recorded this in our floorbook using mark-making and drawings.  The children have been extending their play by pretending to paint their nails.

We are very grateful to the Ladywell Neighbourhood network for their very kind donation of beautifully knitted baby clothes and blankets.  The children have been thoroughly enjoying lots of baby play.

Children have also been enjoying creating their own hairdressing shop, sharing and cooperating well with each other to recreate and invent situations.

This week at Inveralmond Early Years and Ladywell nursery the children have been continuing to use different resources to create obstacles in the garden. There was some great team working skills being displayed with the children working together to build the obstacles and good turn taking being observed. Some of the children also enjoyed using the guttering to catch the rain water from the roof of the nursery, watching the water slide down and into a bucket.

The children have been displaying some good fine motor development when exploring the playdoh and a variety of resources to create their own minibeasts. Some great spiders, worms and other creatures where created!

The children have been busy harvesting the vegetables we have grown in the garden. Once we picked our vegetables we washed and prepared them to have at snack time. The children were using some of their senses to touch, taste and smell the vegetables.
