Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,

Couldn’t put Humpty together again.

Comments Off on Robert Burns Celebrations

Children at Ladywell Nursery participated in a variety of Scottish activities and traditions to celebrate Robert Burns Day. Children enjoyed listening and dancing to Scottish music, exploring different types of tartan and making their own tartan by weaving different colours of paper. We sang Scottish songs, listened to Scottish stories and had the opportunity to taste haggis, neeps and tatties for snack. We were very lucky to have a special visitor Leon from Deans High School, who played the bagpipes for us. Thank you!

Comments Off on Chinese New Year!

During our Chinese Celebration, the children at Ladywell Nursery enjoyed having noodles and sweet and sour sauce for snack. Some of the children demonstrated good fine motor skills as they practiced using the chop sticks to pick up the noodles while other children opted to use their fingers or forks. Most of the children liked the snack and was able to describe the noodles as yummy and sweet.

These two girls decided to make their own noodles out of playdough. Using their hands to roll the playdough into long strands before placing their playdough noodles into a bowl and offering it to their friends during imaginative play.

Five Little Peas

Five little peas in a pea pod pressed,

One grew, two grew,

So did all the rest.

They grew and grew and did not stop,

Until one day the pod went,

POP!

The children in Ladywell Nursery have been demonstrating very good turn taking and problem solving skills while programming the beebot and building the pirate jigsaw. Children took turns to programme the beebot to go forward or backwards on the number line. Children demonstrated good number recognition within 10 and some children were able to confidently count backwards from 10-1. The children concentrated well on the jigsaw and chatted together about where the pieces should go. Great perseverance demonstrated by all children. Well Done!

The children in Ladywell Nursery are learning about how they have the right to be respected and safe. Throughout the nursery, children experience many ways to keep safe and are learning how to respect each other during play and how to look after the environment. We are going to be focusing on articles 12, 19, 27, and 7 which covers the Right to be listened too, Right to be protected and treated with respect, Right to have a name and nationality and the Right to live in a way that can help them reach their full potential. This will be documented through mark-making and recording their thoughts and feelings in the floorbook and talking tree. Parents are very welcome to take a look at the different displays in the nursery and chat with your children and add any comments to our talking tree.

The children at Ladywell Nursery have been learning about winter. The children were very curious to find ice outside one morning and wanted to know how it got there. We decided to do an ice experiment. The children filled the jars with water and various materials such as glitter. We then placed the jars in the freezer and left them there till the next day. The children asked lots of questions and we recorded our knowledge in the floorbook. The next day the children were so excited to see what had happened to the water. This lead to further discussions about icebergs and where we might find them. The children used the Ipads to further their knowledge about ice and how it forms. The children showed lots of curiosity and enjoyed exploring the ice in the water tray and discussing why it started to melt. We are going to continue to learn about the world around us and ways we can help our planet.

We have had a busy week learning about Chinese New Year at Inveralmond Eary Years. The children have enjoyed creating some Chinese traditional things such as Chinese lanterns, dragons and tasting some delicious Chinese noodles.

We have also been busy exploring the change in weather outdoors with the snow and ice. The children enjoyed a winter woodland walk with lots of curiosity as to why the puddles had frozen over with ice. There has been lots of interest in the garden with the ice and some children have been using some tools to break the ice up and find whatever has been frozen underneath.
