The children at Ladywell Nursery School have had a busy week learning lots of new skills in different areas of nursery.

Construction area

Developing hand and eye co-ordination skills through completing jigsaws.

Developing fine motor skills through picking up pom poms using wooden tweezers.

Developing navigation skills and numeracy skills whilst using the Promethean board.

Developing mark making skills through using illuminated writing boards.

Art area

Developing mathematical skills through pouring water from big to small pots learning new vocabulary.

Learning 2D shapes and their properties through exploring with clay.

Developing fine motor skills and hand and eye co-ordinations skills through cutting up vegetables in the house corner.

Block play area

Developing their imagination skills when building a stage where the children performed to their friends.

Risk assessing their play when balancing on the wooden planks to cross from one area to another.

Building various models sharing their thoughts and feelings on what they created.

We are thoroughly enjoying our daily trips to the local woodland.  The children have spent time this week litter picking in the areas around the Nursery.

We have had a fabulous week at Ladywell Nursery School!

The children have been developing their knowledge of 2D shapes through an activity set up where they were learning about their properties, matching them and making their own shapes using pipe cleaners.

Our floorbook has now moved on from volcanoes and has now gone in the direction of dinosaurs.  The children are enjoying learning about their different names through stories and watching clips on the Promethean board.  They had fun investigating the fossil stones in the sand tray using the magnifying glasses and are enjoying role-playing with the dinosaurs.  Next week we are going to further investigate by finding out what dinosaurs like to eat.  Please feel free to take a look and comment in our floorbook if your child has shared any of their learning with you.

They also enjoyed exploring the block play area where they have been learning the names of the different blocks and matching them as well as creating their own designs using their imagination.

Outdoors the children had fun in the snow making snow angels and discovering pieces of ice where lots of discussions took place about how water turns to ice.  They also enjoyed pouring water from one bucket into another developing their hand and eye co-ordination skills.

This week in Inveralmond we have had lots of fun outdoors where we have continued to experiment with the snow and ice.  We even managed to build a snowman.

Indoors we have continued to discuss the different weather we have been experiencing.  This led to some children using a variety of ingredients to make shakers that sounded like rain and hail.   The children made bird feeders to make sure the birds that visit our garden do not go hungry.  We have been watching the birds and learning the different names.

We have lots of children becoming involved in roleplay at our recently set up beauty parlor.  We are on the lookout for any donations that could help enhance our role play area

We have had a fabulous week at Ladywell Nursery School!

The children have been developing their fine motor skills through cutting activities.  They were practising how to hold scissors and cut strips of paper or follow a line to cut along.

They were also further developing their fine motor skills when using the small wooden hammers to hammer small tacs into wooden shapes developing their hand and eye co-ordination.

They also enjoyed exploring the block play area where they have been learning the names of the different blocks and matching them as well as creating their own designs using their imagination.

They were developing their numeracy skills through different games on offer.

Developing mark making skills using the Promethean board and pen.

The children enjoyed playing bowling with the skittles developing their turn-taking skills and they had fun  exploring the nursery garden.

They also enjoyed the different tactile experiences on offer where they learned some new describing words.

The children at Ladywell have discovered that mixing some things together can have amazing results.
