Inveralmond Early Years Centre and Ladywell Nursery School

The children and staff in Inveralmond Early Years Centre have had a super week.  We have been out and about looking for different types of environmental print in the local area, spotting signs of spring and having great fun in a few of the local parks.

Back in the nursery we have been talking and learning about people who help us, in particular the fire brigade.  The children also enjoyed using a variety of vehicles to mark make.

Hickory Dickory Dock

Our theme this year was bedtime stories for world book day. To celebrate the children were invited to wear their PJ’s to nursery. Throughout the nursery session we listened to the world book day song and children spoke about their favourite story books.

Recently we had one of the trees in our garden cut down and we had the tree surgeons to cut up some of the trunks for the garden. The children have really enjoyed using them as an assault course, balancing, jumping and walking over them. Lots of great gross motor skills have been observed!

Children at Ladywell Nursery enjoyed making pizza today! Over the last few weeks children have been making playdough pizzas during their imaginative and creative play. The children asked if they could make a real pizza to eat. We discussed what we would need to make are pizza and what toppings the children would like. Children were able to follow simple instructions given by an adult as they created their pizza. Once the pizza was cooked the children were able to have their pizza snack. Yummy!

Children at Ladywell nursery had a lovely parental engagement session with the Pathways through play bus. It was great to see everyone engage well in the storytelling and singing at the beginning of the session. Children were excited to take part in the story “Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly”. Each child chose a coloured wand, when that colour was mentioned in the story they waved their wand.  Lots of other exciting activities to do such as pick up pompoms with tweezers and place them in the correct coloured cup, find the letters in the jelly balls, launching balls into space and making colourful wands with ribbon.  Thank you to everyone for coming along and sharing this learning experience with your children.

This week at IEYC the children have been exploring measurement in lots of different ways. We have been measuring each others height, different lengths of objects, water and sand and discussing biggest to smallest. The children have enjoyed recording their findings.

The children in IEYC have been extremely creative this week we have used a variety of resources to make cars and boats.  We are using real tools and following the rules to keep everyone safe.

We have been learning about winter and Jo (HNC student) and some children decided to make bird feeders for the garden.
