Ladywell Nursery School

This week we have re-arranged the nursery back to one cohort and the children have been eager to explore the different provision throughout. In the garden the children have showed a great interest in searching for small creatures and bugs. We have found slugs, spiders, centipedes and beetles and have been using tubs and containers to place them in looking at them through the magnifying glass. We hope to build a bug house with  some different materials. The children are still demonstrating their movement and co ordination skills as they take part and enjoy the cosmic kids yoga sessions on the promethean board.

Inverlamond Early Years and Ladywell Nursery

This week the children at both Inverlamond and Ladywell have taken part in performing some songs for our summer celebration. The children that are leaving nursery to begin their adventure into Primary 1 were presented with a certificate and a book as a goodbye gift.

All the staff at Inveralmond Early Years and Ladywell Nursery School wish all the children the very best and hope you all enjoy your new adventure in Primary 1!

Maths Though Story

Books that explore an aspect of mathematics are chosen and displayed in the nursery playrooms.

Alongside the book there will be some resources that support the mathematical concept of the book.

For the next two weeks our maths through story book will be ‘Rainforest Workout’ which will focus on counting forwards and backwards.

This week the children at Inveralmond have been busy using and gaining control of their physical, gross motor development. They have been using a mat in the garden to practice their gymnastics skills, doing forward rolls, stretches, the splits and backwards rolls. The children had fun creating a road with chalks where they rode their bikes on. We have also been busy using problem solving and team working skills whilst building dens together in the garden which is a great way to gain further social skills.

We have been taking the time to continue to take trips over to the school playground where we have been playing a variety of games including bowling which further enhances co ordination and problem solving skills.

Ladywell Nursery School

This week at Ladywell Nursery School the children have had lots of fun visiting the school gym hall and the local park.

At the gym hall the children were developing their gross motor skills when running, playing football, balancing bean bags on their heads whilst walking, using the hula hoops to roll them along the ground and throwing bean bags into them then counting how many bean bags were inside the hoop, walking along the balancing beam and jumping off and also playing basketball.  This is a great transition link for the pre-school children who are moving onto P1 at Harrysmuir Primary School soon.

At the park the children were displaying good listening skills when following instructions from staff.  They held each other’s hands and walked along safely. We stopped and looked at signs in the environment talking about the different letters and spotted some numbers too.  When at the park the children took turns and played together well on the different slides etc., we even spotted some aeroplanes passing by.  On our way back to nursery the children spoke about what they liked best at the park and the slide came out the most popular.  We are hoping to visit the park again next week.

The children have also been very busy practicing songs for our summer celebration on Monday 9th August.

Next week we will be having some picnics outside in the garden weather permitting.

Have a great weekend!

This week in Ladywell Nursery School the children have been very busy.  They took an interest in looking at shells which led onto a child wanting to colour the shells in.  This was very popular and many children also wanted to do this.  We spoke about the different textures of the shells and how they feel.  We spoke about different colours and where you would find shells which led onto the children talking about the beach and summer holidays.

The children have also enjoyed singing songs in the garden which led onto playing outdoor games like sandy boy sandy girl etc, developing their turn taking and listening skills.

The children have also been using their imagination and role play skills well when building a house with doors and windows.

The children have also been busy developing their fine motor skills when drawing lovely pictures sharing their thoughts on what they have drawn.

Thank you to everyone who have handed in clothes for the nursery it is very much appreciated as we always run short of them.

Have a great weekend!

Inveralmond Early Years Centre

This week the children have been busy exploring the building blocks creating a ‘run way’ for the aeroplanes. There are different stages of block play and each stage provides children opportunities to further develop a range of skills including, imagination, problem- solving, mathematical concepts (measurement, estimations, numbers), physical development, literacy and communication.

With the warm weather still continuing the children at Inveralmond have been having fun using the garden to develop their physical development by running, jumping and climbing on the climbing frame. We have also been enjoying having our snack together in the garden.
