Guess the soft toy’s birthday!

The Parent’s Council has donated a large soft toy to each nursery to raise funds.

For £1 you can guess the toy’s birthday and have a chance of winning! Give your £1 and chosen date to staff on the door.

It will be drawn on the last Friday of term, December 17th.

The toys are displayed in the window leading up to each nursery door.

Good Luck!

 Story time with Boost words!

We have chosen some Christmas themed stories for the next few weeks.

Our first is Pete and Polo’s Magical Christmas by Adrian Reynolds

The boost words are

squeak  disappointed   wrap   agreeundefined

Pete and Polo are hoping for snow at Christmas and when they meet Santa at the shopping centre he tells them the best way to make Christmas magic to happen is to make people happy so Pete makes presents for his family and, hurrah, there is snow on Christmas day!

We weren’t able to find this story on line, if you have more luck, please let us know!

Christmas Song of the Week

WHEN SANTA GOT STUCK UP THE CHIMNEY

When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney - Trombone Solo | Pennine Music Publishing

When Santa got stuck up the chimney,

He began to shout!

You girls and boys won’t get any toys if you don’t pull me out.

My beard is black, there’s soot in my sack, my nose is tickly too.

When Santa got stuck up the chimney

A-choo! A-choo! A-choo!

Comments Off on The Solar System and Outer Space

This week in I.E.Y.C the children have shown interest in planets and outer space.  We have been learning the names, the colours and the sizes of the planets.

Some children have enjoyed dressing up as astronauts and working together to build space rockets in the construction area.  We have been playing a number of space themed board games and interactive games on the smart board to support our numeracy skills and increasing our vocabulary.

We have been focusing on letter names and sounds this week in group time and the children are working very hard with this.  Well done everyone.

Please scan the qr code on the Nursery door to allow you to see our floorbook, planning and learning with you through a sway.

You will find the links to the WordBoost stories if you scroll through the blog, they are also in your child’s individual Learner’s Journey.

Rhyme Time

Row Row Row The Boat for one more week. Try it as an interactive rhyme sitting facing your child on the floor and holding their hands. Move forward and back in time as you sing. You can go fast or slow, be on  calm or rough water, be loud and energetic or quiet and calm, the choice is yours.

We are also continuing to celebrate Scotland through story, song and rhyme and have made a SWAY for you to enjoy together at home.

The children in Inveralmond have been learning about time.   We have been learning about times of the day and times of the year.  Some children have shown a lot of interest in telling the time on watches and a variety of clock

There is also an interest in hospital play, where children are participating in role play, sharing and co-operating with their friends.

We have also been experimenting with colour mixing

Outdoors the children discovered ice in one of the trays. They broke it up and discussed how it became ice. We experimented using hot and cold water, watching how fast the ice would melt in each. We have also filled up a bowl of water and put it in the freezer to experiment with next week.

The children have also been very helpful tidying the leaves in the garden. There has been a lot of discussion over the seasons and interests with time in particular light and dark.

We have also been enjoying some group time, where we have been playing rhyming and syllables games focusing on supporting the children’s literacy development.
