Boost words:

astonished   brave   creature   creep

Vocabulary development supports all aspects of literacy;reading, writing, talking and listening.

Support your child in developing their vocabulary through spotting the boost words as you listen to the story, discuss their meaning and then use the words as much as possible in different contexts e.g. creep around the garden and search for creatures under the stones. Tell them you are astonished when they do something brave!

Child friendly definitions:

brave-brave is doing something dangerous or scary even if you are scared.

creature-creatures are animals or insects, they can be real or pretend.

creep-creeping is moving slowly and quietly.

astonished-astonished is very surprised.

This week at Inveralmond Early Years we have been very busy with Easter activities. The children have enjoyed helping to make chocolate crispy cakes, mixing the cereal into the chocolate , scooping them into the cases and adding their own chocolate egg on top.

We have also been having fun colouring in our own Easter baskets and then cutting out and gluing together.

The Easter Bunny had a little visit to nursery today and after the children read the story ‘The Great Easter Egg Hunt’ we had our own Easter egg hunt in the garden. The children managed to find all the eggs the Easter Bunny hid!

This week at Inveralmond Early Years we have been having lots of discussions on how we keep our body healthy. We have been doing yoga, exercise classes and interactive dances including ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ to ‘get fit’ that the children have enjoyed joining in with.

Outdoors the children have been making their own obstacle courses, using their movement and co ordination to balance, cycle and jump.

 

There has also been some great building happening, creating different buildings and structures. The children have been displaying good team working and problem solving skills when creating their structures!

 

The children have began some Easter activities, making their own Easter egg designs, developing their understanding of creating and following on a pattern.

We have a new story!

Guess How Much I Love You In Spring by Sam McBratney

Week one (4-8th April) naming: hare  spring  acorn  tree  tadpole  frog  caterpillar  butterfly  wings nest  egg  bird

Week two (11-14 April) describing: little  big   tiny  mighty  wriggly  hairy  green  brown  nutbrown  lovely  grown-up

The rhyme we are learning for Easter is:

Five Little Easter Eggs

Five little Easter eggs, lovely colours wore,

Taylor ate the blue one, then there were four.

Four little Easter eggs, two and two you see,

Lindsay ate the red one, then there were three.

Three little Easter eggs, before I knew,

Harley ate the orange one, then there were two.

Two little Easter eggs, oh what fun!

Skyler ate the purple one, then there was one.

This week at Inveralmond Early Years the children have been enjoying the lovely sunshine, exploring the outdoor area. We have been playing circle games including ‘Sandy girl’ and ‘duck duck goose’ and enjoying having our story time in the garden.

The children have been investigating our mini beasts tray displayed in the garden, discussing what types of insects we can see or find in the tray or around the garden.

Due to the nice weather we have been having our lunch in the garden, which the children have enjoyed doing all week!

This week in Inveralmond EYC the children have been noticing some signs of Spring in our garden and have been enjoying lots of outdoor play.  We have been talking about what happens in Sping building on our children’s vocabulary and knowledge.

Also in the garden, the children have been making potions with a variety of ingredients learning about and discussing the changes that take place when ingredients and mixed together.

Our story this week is the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  This has been very popular and the children are reenacting the story in their play with puppets and building their own bridges in the construction area.

Rhyme and Story Time

1,2,3,4,5, once I caught a fish alive,

6,7,8,9,10,then I let it go again,

Why did you let it go?

Because it bit my finger so.

Which finger did it bite?

This little finger on my right.

What a lot of different things were caught in this version of the song. I wonder if you can think of anything else you might find in water that might bite you? Just pretending of course for a bit of fun!
