This week at Inveralmond and Ladywell Nursery the children have been displaying great team working skills whilst creating fantastic structures with the blocks, including a house.

In the garden some of the children made an obstacle course out of the soft play. Some great gross motor development was displayed as the children jumped, climbed and ran over the obstacle.

Using some of the coloured bricks the children used their fine motor skills to create different animals and items. A few things made were a camera and a chicken!

Our topic in nursery is mini beasts and the children have been interested in finding out facts about different mini beasts including spiders. We provided a variety of materials in the art area for children to create their very own spider!

This week in Inveralmond and Ladywell we have welcome new children into both settings.  We have been enjoying the nice weather and spending time in the garden.  The children’s interest is moving on from jungle animals to mini-beasts.  We have been hunting in the garden and next week we plan to continue this in the local woodland while on our adventures.

Some children have been working hard together creating structures using a variety of loose parts

Comments Off on The Jungle

The children at Ladywell and Inveralmond have been involved in creating a jungle small world. We have used a selection of natural resources such as sand, water and branches of trees to help develop their imagination and language skills. The children have shown great curiosity and have chatted about the different animals and where they live. The children have shown good sharing skills during play with their peers.

The children at Ladywell and Inveralmond Nursery had the opportunity to go for a walk in the local woods. The children demonstrated good large gross motor skills while climbing onto the big log and using their balancing skills to walk along the smaller log. The children used mathematical language to describe the different sizes of the logs and decided to see how many children it would take to make the same length of the sticks. The children were very engaged in this activity and demonstrated good communication and problem solving skills.

Story time and rhyme time

Our story focus is

The Selfish Crocodile by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry

It is the first of our Nursery WordBoost stories.

Nursery WordBoost is an approach designed to develop the vocabulary of children at nursery through the sharing of books in which there are four highlighted ‘boost’ words. These words are clearly identified to children, staff and parents with the hope that everyone uses the words as much as possible and they become part of the child’s vocabulary.

The boost words for The Selfish Crocodile are

astonished   brave   creature   creep

Here are two versions of the story for you to enjoy

This week at Inveralmond Early Years we have been making the most of the lovely sunshine and exploring our local community. Some of the children enjoyed a trip to one of the local parks. There was lots of great gross motor skills displayed whilst climbing and climbing. We also enjoyed a nice refreshing snack in the shade before heading back to nursery.

We have been also been spending lots of time in the garden, displaying good fine motor skills and problem solving skills. We have been role playing with the babies and some good team working skills have been displayed whilst playing co operatively with each other.
