Ladywell Nursery School

This week in Ladywell Nursery School some children took part with litter picking in the woods in our local community. Whilst they were picking up all of the litter we discussed the reasons why we were doing so and why it’s important to keep the community clean. At the end of the walk they watched a member of staff put the filled bag of litter into the main bin where they explained that the bin lorry and bin men/women will come to pick it up. The children are becoming more aware of the different jobs and roles people have in the wider community.

In the sensory room this week the children have enjoyed learning about light and dark which links to our current floorbook.  They were mark making with the coloured light up boards sharing their thoughts and feelings with others. They have also been investigating with the coloured magnetic blocks identifying different colours and learning how magnets stick together.  They are continuing to enjoy the experience of the black tent where they are using the torches to see and some children have asked for the light to be off in the room to further explore darkness.  Next week the children will be learning all about the moon and why there is a moon.  Children’s comments and photos will be added to floorbook.  If your child happens to share their learning at home with you in relation to light and dark please feel free to add a comment about this into the floorbook.

This week at the construction area the children having been using their imagination to create models through block play.  Staff are also encouraging children to risk assess their play when standing on the large wooden blocks to encourage them to think about whether or not it is safe or not safe. Well done boys and girls!
