Sports Day at Harrysmuir Primary School

As part of their transition to Harrysmuir Primary School the preschool children were invited to take part in a special sports day. They were supported brilliantly by the P6s and a fun time was had by all!

This week at Inveralmond Early Years Centre we have been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather. The children have been enjoying lots of outdoor play demonstrating some great gross motor and turn taking skills.

A lovely refreshing snack has also been available in our new snack area in the garden!

The children helped to transfer our caterpillars into the butterfly net. It shouldn’t be long until we have some butterflies!

Throughout everyday situations, you can use new words and talk about what these words mean to help expand your child’s functional vocabulary. Functional language is vocabulary that people use in daily activities.

Comments Off on We have been busy planting our flowers.

The children at Ladywell Nursery have been very busy developing their outdoor area. The children have been helping to prepare the flower beds ready for planting out our different flowers that we have been growing. The children have been learning about how to be safe in the garden and how to use digging equipment safely. During these activities the children have been sharing their own knowledge and experiences of planting and helping their parents and grandparents in the garden.

While the weather has been sunny the children have been noticing a lot more bugs around the nursery garden. We found a small caterpillar on a leaf and the children made a little home for it and demonstrated a caring nature towards it. Later that day we carefully released the caterpillar onto a tree. We now have mining bees in the garden and have made a safe area for the bees and discussed with the children about being safe around the bees, and respecting there little home they have made. Some children were very curious about the bees. We looked at some books about bees and researched on the internet about mining bees.  Some children made their own bees during an art activity and we displayed the bees on the window.

Comments Off on Life Cycle of a Frog

The children at Ladywell Nursery have been learning about the life cycle of a frog.  Through discussions in our spring floorbook, the children shared their knowledge of what they knew about the life cycle of a frog. The children’s voice was documented in the floorbook through mark-making and a member of staff writing down the child’s knowledge.  We then looked at books and researched on the internet about frogs, to help develop their knowledge further. We provided a variety of activities such as a pond with leaves, slime and green dye and frogs for the children to explore and use their imagination. Lots of great language was used to describe what was in the pond. We provided an interactive display for the children to engage with. This has led to children talking about other life cycles such as the caterpillar.

Comments Off on King’s Coronation

The children enjoyed participating in the King’s Coronation celebrations.  We celebrated this special day by having a picnic in the garden, making crowns, listening to stories about kings and Queens, and listening to marching band music. We then all had a piece of cake that some children had helped to make. It was delicious!
