Primary 4 Update

It has been a very busy first term and we wanted to share with you some of the things that Primary 4 have been doing.

We have been studying famous artists this term. So far we have looked at Steven Brown and Kadinsky with a focus on their use of colour. The class have used pastel and paint to recreate the artist’s work for our classroom art gallery.

We are taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and the class are aiming to read for at least 15 minutes everyday. They have also been given a reading passport to complete when they finish a new book. We have some cushions and beanbags that children can use at this time but if your child has their own that they can keep in class for the year then please send them in with their name written on them. We are also looking for donations of books and magazines to improve our library. If you have any books that you could donate to us then please send them in to us.

It was National Poetry Day on Thursday and the children wrote poems using similes and metaphors. Our star writer of the week was Kayla Sinnet.

Well done Kayla.

Please leave a comment for us on anything you have seen today on our post. Thank you.

Primary 7

It has been a very busy term so far. Our school show has been decided, auditions held and parts given out. This years school show will be Pirates of the Currybean. Rehearsals have began and a date for our performance to be confirmed.

Our class have been involved in an anti-bullying performance and workshop which the children really enjoyed watching and taking part in.

We have had a visit from Drama Box and the children enjoyed their session learning to project their voices, take part in improvisation and act out feelings and emotions.

The class are currently taking part in Futsall and Judo as part of their P.E but have also taken responsibility for their own P.E lessons by planning lessons in small groups which they can lead with the class. They have looked at warm up games, skills and how to organise teams and games.

The children have been learning about pollution in our seas and oceans and ways we can help to reduce the effect we have on them, as part of their transition work with Stoneyburn.

The children have been learning to use different mediums to create art work. We are focused on sketching at the moment but have also looked at clay modelling.

In Science we are looking at electricity and circuits. The children have worked on identifying insulators and conductors, creating series and parallel circuits and using their knowledge to create models.

Term 1 in Nursery

We have had a very busy first term. We have looked at books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and children have enjoyed retelling the stories through our puppets and story table.

Children have enjoyed measuring in the building block area and water tray, practicing recognizing and writing their numbers and problem solving/investigating during outdoor play.

We have lots planned for this term so please check our October newsletter for more details.

Sunflowers in the Nursery

We are growing sunflowers in the nursery and will be measuring them to see how tall they will grow.

As part of this the children have been given their own sunflowers to take home.We would love to see any pictures of how they get on and will post pictures of ours each week til the end of term.

Children have helped plant potatoes and flowers in our garden and have looked at the different parts of plants and what they need to help them grow. Children will be making their own cardboard greenhouses to plant a bean seed in so that they can see the roots, stem and leaves take shape.

Nursery newsletter will be issued next week for upcoming dates and events.

Our new topic for May is going to be Pirates and Under the Sea. More information to follow in our newsletter.
