Three cheers for the HEG Group!

Greenrigg%20School

We were delighted to welcome our friends Peter Kain and Hugh Robertson from the Harthill, Eastfield and Greenrigg windfarm group who kindly presented us with a cheque for £3000. We are looking forward to extending our Trim Trail with this money. Peter and Hugh then came to Assembly on the 9th October and told us all about the work that the group are doing to help our communities.

P6/5 Outdoor learning – people of the rainforest.

P6 from Stoneyburn joined P6/5 today to take part in outdoor learning at Greenrigg Community woodland. It was a chance to make new friends and work with different people.

Mrs Gibson, Miss Cooke and Miss Benson walked us down to the community wood to help us make forest cocktails and build dens.

Our forest cocktails were made with different leaves, flowers and tree parts and mixed with a long stick. We had different smells in each cup. We then named our creations.

We then formed teams and had to make a den with a roof to protect us from the wind and rain. We used leaves, sticks and plants around us to build them. Some of us were more successful than others.

We had an excellent day and can’t wait for the next opportunity when we can all get together.

Money Week budget challenge

As part of Money week, we had to complete a challenge to organise a weekend trip to London for 2 adults.  We had a £1000 to spend on travel, accommodation and activities. It was really important that we stuck to our budget as you can’t spend money that you don’t have. We found that even though £1000 seems a lot, it didn’t go very far.

We were successful and kept to our budget that we were given. We realised that booking and organising a trip away or a holiday isn’t cheap.

Visit from Zoolab

Today P6/5 had a visit from Zoolab. They brought lots of different rainforest animals for us to look at and touch too. We saw a cornsnake, stick insect, scorpion, cockroaches, snails and a tree frog.

“I enjoyed holding the cockroach. It was really ticklely” – Sophie

” I liked touching the cornsnake because it was really cold and had lots of scales” – Arron

” I liked when the frog climbed out of the box and was jumping everywhere” – Jason

” I liked looking at the frog because it was cute.” – Rafael.

We really enjoyed their visit and hope that they can come again.
