Our chicks have arrived!

Our 11 chick eggs arrived safely yesterday and are currently snuggled up in their incubator at the front office.

The programme designed by Living Eggs (see www.livingeggs.co.uk for more information) aims to promote awe and wonder across the curriculum at all levels. Over the next two weeks the children from nursery to primary 7 will be learning about the life cycle of a chicken by a variety of class work and will provide the children an opportunity to see chicks actually hatching from their eggs.

By next week the chicks will be old enough to be held and handling sessions will be made available to children during school hours and to parents during Parents’ Evening. If you can’t wait until then, or you would like to follow the progress and watch the chicks hatch LIVE! a link is available through our Glow page. You will find a tab on the main page called “LIVE Chicken Hatching”.

We would like to thank the PTA for donating money to the school and making this exciting school project possible.

Comic Relief

Well done and thank you to all the pupils who donated money towards Comic Relief 2013.
This year we came into school wearing red clothes, joined in with the official Comic Relief song and dance at assembly and spent the whole day wearing our red noses! It was a relief to take them off at the end of the day.

Our rough total so far is £140 but we are still counting the money and will let you know of our final total soon.

Thank you again!

Euro Quiz 2013

Congratulations to our P6 Euro Quiz team, Elliot, Alison, Elena and Jodie, who competed at this year’s competition.

The team scored 42 out of a maximum 60 points on the day, placing them in 8th equal place. The scoring was very close with just a few points between the schools who placed ahead of our team, i.e. 43, 44, 46, so very well done to the pupils in what was a very challenging quiz.

The P6 team will be holding revision sessions for P5 pupils later this year to help them train for next year’s competition. If you would like to be part of the team, start revising now!

Snow Day 2013

Well everyone, it’s a bit later than we may have expected but 2013 has seen its first snow day. Hopefully everyone will have a safe day. Don’t forget there are activities to keep you busy on GLOW and the school blog. Perhaps you could visit your class page and leave a comment on what you have been doing today. Or even better, email the school a photo and we will upload it to GLOW for everyone else to see.

Barcaple – Day 4

An exciting day for all. Started off taking a woodland walk and learning all about the plants and trees around us. We made shelters and then sat around a small fire drinking our hot chocolate and eating our biscuits. Walking in the squelching mud and through small streams was super exciting….scraping the mud off our boots was not!

We then completed the tree climbing activity and after dinner spent time around the camp fire roasting marshmallows and sharing stories.

Everyone is now tucked up in their beds and fast asleep. Time for the teachers to eat all the leftover marshmallows!!

Pupil Council 2012-2013

The Pupil Council met at the beginning of the year and carried out their own school inspection! They discussed lots of positive aspects of the school such as the colourful wall displays, the quality of the work, the structure of the open areas, the friendly and positive atmosphere.

The Pupil Council also highlighted some areas which they would like to improve further such as keeping the school tidier, changing some slightly older wall displays, refreshing the playground games and buying new computers. They also wanted to be more involved in changing the open areas regularly.

Our wall display at the front office will show you our action plan and will also show you which actions we have already completed.

Barcaple – Day 3

This morning we had sausages and tattie scones for breakfast. Then we had our room inspection and we got 8.5. After that we had our first activity.  Today’s activities were rope challenge, crate climbing, tree climbing and orienteering. Our favourite activity was the rope course. For dinner we had chicken in cream sauce with potatoes and sweetcorn and for pudding we had Barcaple surprise.

We are just back from our evening games and have now showered and are in bed. Night night!

Barcaple – Day 2

Just returned from our afternoon’s adventures. We learned all about conservation, the important trees and plants around us and…WE BUILT OUR OWN DENS! We also abseiled off the top of a really tall tree! It was quite scary but we helped each other to be brave and try it.

Time for showers and dinner now, followed by some evening activities….we’re not tired yet!

Barcaple – Day 1

Primary 7s have arrived at Barcaple safely. The children had a fantastic start to their adventure by completing two activities.  The purple group were abseiling and doing archery yesterday and today are orienteering and completing a crate climbing challenge. The weather has been cold but sunny. Phew!
