Wednesday 10th June

Morning Everyone!

Today we are going to be creating some nature mandalas inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy. You’ll need to get outside and collect lots of natural materials such as stones, leaves, pine cones. Anything you can find! But remember not to destroy plants or pick wild flowers only use flowers from your garden.

Remember to check out your family and individual Random Acts of Wildness for 30 days Wild on twitter. Share your pictures on twitter too.

Enjoy

Fantastic Friday! 5th June 2020

Morning Everyone.

See the source image

Friday again. Today we are going to do a 30 Days Wild activity. For this activity your need to design and create your own bird. You can get some ideas from looking up different birds online. Birds are so interesting and come in all different shapes and sizes. What is especially beautiful about birds is that their feathers can be all sorts of patterns and colours! Now you don’t have to make it look like a real bird just use your imagination and create the most amazing bird you can come up with.

Can you take the British bird challenge? Ask a grown up to cover the names and see how many you know the name of. Then see how many you can spot over the next week. Some of them are tricky to see as they only come out at night. Even living in the city we have lots of birds and we often see sparrows, starlings, chaffinches, blue tits, wood pigeons, robins, wrens, magpies and of course lots and lots of seagulls! Oooo they are so noisy those seagulls!

Can’t wait to see all of you creations on twitter.

Have a great weekend!

Love Mrs Short 😀

It’s Thursday!! Thursday 4th June 2020

Good Morning everyone,

Well did everyone spot what I forgot to put on the blog yesterday?…there was no numeracy! Silly Mrs Short. Don’t worry it’ll be there today.

Numeracy Mathematics Literacy Clip Art, PNG, 1174x729px, Numeracy ...

As we only have a few weeks left of term I thought it would be a great opportunity to build some skills that are really important for numeracy.

Numicons – you are going to be developing your skills in number bonds for numbers 1- 10. It is important that you know these facts very well as we use them a lot in numeracy and these basic ones can also be used to wok out more complicated calculations later.

CHALLENGE: If you get to the point where you know them all very well and can say them, make them, draw them. Then why not try looking at the 2x table (see Numbers/Digits resources)

Numbers and Digits – you are going to be building skills on times tables

Numbers – you are going to focus on 2x, 5x and 10x

CHALLENGE: If you get to the point where you know them all very well and can say them, make them, draw them, skip count and write the equations. Then why not try looking at the 3x, 4x and 6x table

Digits – you are going to focus on 3x, 4x and 6x

CHALLENGE : If you get to the point where you know them all very well and can say them, make them, draw them. skip count and write the equations. Then why not try looking at the 8x, 9x and 11x table.

I’ve created an overview sheet with lots of activities, online videos and online games. Also check out active learn and sumdog (logins in your home learning packs) for some extra activities and games. Just choose a couple of activities a day.

Enjoy!

Good Morning! Wednesday 3rd June

Morning Everyone,

Well here we are in June already! I can’t believe how long it is since I saw you all. I bet you have all grown loads!

Get ready to go wild... 30 Days Wild! | The Wildlife Trust for ...

This week we have started 30 Days Wild run by the Wildlife Trusts. You can still sign up online here and it will give you access to loads of great activities and webcams. This is a great campaign to raise awareness of outdoors and nature. Each day there will be a random act of wildness for you to complete. I will post these on twitter. There are random acts of wildness which are easy for you to do on your own and there are ones that are for the family to do together.

I will add the resources down below that you can use at home. If you don’t have a printer don’t worry just make your own versions.

Have lots of fun!

Monday 1st June and Tuesday 2nd June Learning Grids.

Hello,

I hope that everybody has been enjoying the amazing weather we have been having! Can you believe it is only 4 more weeks until the Summer?! What a strange term it has been, but you have all coped very well and I hope that you have enjoyed a mixture of learning at home and spending extra time with your families.

This week I am setting 2 learning grids for everybody. We are going to focus on The Olympics as they were supposed to be taking place in Tokyo this year. This links in well with our Countries of the World Topic. The 2 Learning grids have A LOT of activities on them. I DO NOT expect them all to be completed, however there is enough work there to cover the next couple of days. All activities can be completed to ability level. Rest assured, there will be lots of different learning experiences taking place throughout these activities and I hope that the Topic will be fun and interesting for the children!

Let me know if there are any questions and I look forward to seeing examples of your work. I wonder how many children we can have sharing work this week?

Super sunshine Friday! 29th May 2020

Wow! What a super sunny day!

What a great day to look at sun safety. So today we are taking a break from procedural writing and combining writing and HWB to learn about how to stay safe in the sunshine!

Once you have done your task remember to post up your final posters on twitter so we can see all your great designs!

Afterwards make sure to follow the advice so you can stay safe in the sun too.

Enjoy!

It’s Thursday! – 28th May 2020

Morning Everyone,

Well it was lovely to speak to some of you yesterday! I really miss you all so much and can’t wait to see you all again!

So after our chats yesterday some of you were saying that you are not getting through everything and that is fine. Being at home offers lots of learning opportunities that aren’t available at school. Helping out at home is great for developing life skills and I even saw tree climbing yesterday which is great for developing risk awareness and problem solving but not an activity we are allowed to do in school. So in light of those conversations I have reduced the amount on the daily overview to help relieve the pressure at home. Remember the main thing is if you can only manage one thing then focus on reading, writing or numeracy and this can take many forms. I will try and create a list of at home activities that support these areas too.

Anyway here are you tasks for today.

Enjoy!

Love Mrs Short

Wicked Wednesday -27th May 2020

Morning Everyone,

I hope you have had a great week.

Today’s fun fact is that on this day in 1933 Walt Disney released their short film about the Three Little Pigs. You can watch it HERE. Maybe watch it after you have done your music lesson and then see if you can guess the instruments being played during the film.

Three Little Pigs poster.jpg

Hope you are all keeping well. I’m hoping to be able to give you all a ring sometime this week and see how you are all doing.

Take care

Mrs Short. 😀
