The children’s author, David MacPhail, visited the school to give a presentation on writing and to sign copies of his book. The children were very interested to hear how David used mind-mapping to plan out his plots, characters and settings, and then collaborated with him to make a mind-map for an imaginary book with a main character who turned out to be a ginger-haired banana that secretly wanted to be broccoli. If you think that’s strange, ask your child who the villain was – it is even more surprising.

David was very complimentary about our children’s focus and behaviour during his presentation and sent this email through Gloworm books. who organised the visit:

What made it such a joy, we were met with children who were polite and really well behaved, who took part and enjoyed the fun of creating the characters for their own book, at David’s session. We appreciate the work of the staff to help make this a really enjoyable event for us as well.

I think you should be really proud of your children and staff at Carmondean and we would look forward to hosting events with you again.

Look forward to learning all about the banana with the ginger hair and his battle against the president!

What more can we say? We know all of this already.

Today, Primary 4-7 children at Carmondean were treated to a very special event.
