Your maths today is all about looking at the area of a shape. The area is the space inside a shape. So imagine that all shapes are made up of little squares, to find the area you count all the squares. When writing your answers for the area of a shape you write it as cm\u00b2 – the small 2 means ‘squared’. There will be shapes in future activities that don\u2019t have squares drawn on and then you need to use multiplication, however we will worry about that when we get there!
