This week we worked very hard in class taking part in our rainforest challenge. In groups we all created models showing the different layers of the rainforest and some of the animals that live there. Don’t they look brilliant?
We also took part in sports day yesterday and had a great time competing in the different events. Thankfully, even though it was cold, the rain stayed off for us.
Remember we are off on Monday and Mrs Harris and Mrs Gilmour will be taking over the class as of Tuesday.
Today is my last day with the class and I am going to miss everybody very much. I am hoping they will continue to work hard for Mrs Gilmour and Mrs Harris as they have been doing so far this year.
Have a great long weekend,
Well done to all the boys and girls who completed their big homework task. We have displayed all our posters in the classroom and they look fantastic!
Remember that sports day is scheduled for next Thursday. P4-7 will be in the morning (this includes the P3s in our class) and we are due to start around 9.30. If possible, please send your child wearing something with their house colour along with appropriate outdoor PE kit.
Deer Park: blue
Keep your fingers crossed for good weather (or at least no rain).
We have all been working very hard on the P4/5 show and are looking forward to performing it.
Next week homework will be spelling and reading pages. Please remember indoor PE kit on Monday.
Next week is my last week in school before I go off on maternity leave and as of Tuesday 24th Mrs Gilmour and Mrs Harris will be taking over the class for the remainder of the term.
Have a great weekend
It sounds as though our Primary 3s had a great time in Lowport last week and behaviour was apparently fantastic so well done!
Today is Day for Change in school (organised by P4/3 and P4) and we’re hoping to see as many people as possible in school in their pyjamas (and slippers too if they like). We will be collecting change to send to UNICEF who help children all over the world who are living in dreadful conditions.
We have all been working hard practising for the P4/5 show, learning the songs and dances and lines. Less than 4 weeks to go now and the boys and girls are all very excited.
Next week homework will go back to normal with spelling, reading and maths all to be completed. We also have our big homework task due next Wednesday.
There will be no indoor PE next Monday due to a show rehearsal and outdoor PE will be on Tuesday so please bring appropriate kit that day.
Have a great weekend
Well we’ve had quite a small class for the last couple of days with 5 of our Primary 3s away to Lowport and yesterday three of our class were also away for the morning competing in a schools gymnastics competition. They did brilliantly coming back with bronze and gold medals and big smiles on their faces. Well done Kuzey, Carla and Rosie!
It looks as though the Primary 3s are having a ball at Lowport and hopefully the snow hasn’t caused any bother. We’re all looking forward to hearing about their time away next week.
Remember we’re off Monday and Tuesday next week.
Next Friday (6th May) is our Day for Change when the children can come to school in pyjamas and also bring slippers to wear in class if they wish. We are collecting spare change for UNICEF and there is no set amount of donation. We do ask if the children are taking part that they bring in something.
Our big homework task for this term was given out on Wednesday and is due to be completed by the 11th May. If your child has lost their copy of the task please let me know asap and I will give them another.
There will be no spelling or maths homework next week as it is a short week. The class still have reading pages to do and their big homework task to work on as well.
Have a great long weekend and enjoy the rest.
Well done to the P4s who were at Auchengillan last week. Their behaviour was great and they all took part in the activities enthusiastically. Have a look at Miss Smith’s P4 blog for some photos of the trip.
The P3s are now really looking forward to their overnight trip to Lowport next week.
We also really enjoyed our trip to Dynamic Earth this week. Unfortunately our bus got caught up in bad traffic on our way there but the boys’ and girls’ behaviour was fantastic with no complaints on the journey. We learned lots more about the rainforests and also had a tour around Dynamic Earth.
Some of the class are taking part in a schools gymnastics competition on Thursday and we all wish them luck. I’m sure they’ll have a great time and do brilliantly.
New reading homework sheets have been attached in homework jotters. These include weekly reading pages as well as tasks to be completed once a fortnight. Please have a look at these as they started this week.
Next week’s homework will be Spelling, reading and maths.
Remember indoor PE is now on a Monday and outdoor PE on a Thursday (weather permitting) so please make sure your child has appropriate kit on these days.
Your child should have brought home a letter last week informing you of the change of teacher in class. As of May 24th Mrs Gilmour and Mrs Harris will be teaching P4/3 when I go off on maternity leave.
The boys and girls in P4 and 5 have all been working hard and rehearsing for our school show. We’re sure it’s going to be great and can’t wait to see the final result.
Have a good weekend
What an exciting week we’ve had this week!
On Tuesday we had a visitor called Callum from a company called Cool Creatures. He came into class with some animals for us to meet. They were all animals from rainforest climates and it really helped us to kick off this term’s topic in a fun and exciting way.
We met a tortoise, two giant millipedes, two armadillos, a tarantula and a python called Bob.
On Tuesday of next week(the 19th) we are going to Dynamic Earth to learn more about the rainforests. A letter was sent home about this earlier in the week. Please can you ensure that this is returned to school before Tuesday and that children bring a packed lunch with them that day. We are all looking forward to our trip.
Some of the Primary 4’s also headed off to Auchengillan for their overnight trip yesterday with Miss Smith. We hope they are having lots of fun and that the weather stays good for them.
Those of us still in school have been busy planning Day for Change which is an event that will be taking place in 3 weeks time.
We also went outside to have a look at the construction of our new gym hall. We’re very excited about all the progress that’s been made and can’t wait until it’s finished.
A slight change has had to be made to our timetable. Indoor PE will remain on a Monday but, as of next week, outdoor PE has been moved to a Thursday and will be on a Thursday until the end of term. Please ensure your child has appropriate kit on these days.
Have a great weekend.
Only one more week until our well deserved Easter holiday. The boys and girls have worked so hard this term and I’m sure they’re looking forward to the break. Remember we finish up on Thursday of next week.
We will be finishing our Mary Queen of Scots topic next week and after the holidays we will be introducing our new topic of the Rainforest with a very exciting visitor. A company called Cool Creatures will be coming along to class with a variety of tropical animals, including this very large snake who also visited us last year in Primary 2.
PE times have now altered slightly as we no longer have Mrs Ferguson. Indoor PE is now on a Monday and outdoor PE on a Wednesday.
We have started to look at our school show for this year with Mr Platt. We are all very excited about it and parts will be given out very soon.
Have a great weekend.
We all had lots of fun yesterday dressing up for World Book Day. We also enjoyed sharing our favourite books we brought in from home.
Doesn’t everybody look great?
This week was our last week with Mrs Ferguson for PE. As of next week our PE times will be different, we will now have indoor PE on a Monday afternoon and outdoor PE on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child has appropriate kit on those days.
Can I please remind parents that your child’s name should be written on all items of clothing they wear/bring to school. A lot of items end up in lost property because they are not labelled and the children do not recognise them. Thanks.
Have a great week.
P4/3 and P4 have been working really hard all week on their assembly and are very excited about performing it for their audience today. We hope you enjoy it if you’re coming along to watch.
Next Thursday (3rd March) Primary 3 are organising World Book Day within the school and those who wish to take part can dress up as a character from their favourite book for the day and can also bring in a favourite book from home for some reading in class time.
There is no charge for this.
10th March – P.S.A event: Spring Disco. If you wish tickets, please return the yellow form with money for ticket. £3.00 for one child, £2.50 per child for a family with two or more children attending.
Have a great week
Thank you to all who attended our parents evening meetings. It was nice to see so many friendly faces and to be able to feedback positively on so many of the class.
Hope you are all looking forward to a lovely relaxing long weekend and maybe even have some fun plans. We start back on Wednesday and next week homework will be maths and reading but no spelling.
Our parent assembly is on 26th February (2 weeks time) More details on this to follow next week.
Enjoy the break, see you all on Wednesday.
Hope everybody has managed to make a start on their big homework task, it’s not due until next Friday (12th) but the more practice time the better. I’m looking forward to hearing them all.
We still have a number of children not bringing PE kit on a weekly basis. We have outdoor PE on a Monday (weather permitting) and indoor on a Wednesday, it is important that your child brings appropriate kit on those days.
Please ensure you are labelling all clothing worn to school by your child as they do not always recognise their own things and many items of clothing end up in lost property.
If you have not yet made your parents’ night appointment please do so as soon as possible. Parents’ nights are next Wednesday 6-8.30 and Thursday 4-6.30.
Have a good week.
What a great trip we had yesterday. We spent the day at Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, and we learned so much. We were very lucky to have some P7 guides from Linlithgow Primary and we were so impressed at how much they know about the Palace and how confident they were in giving us the tour.
Remember parents’ evening are coming up soon. You should all have had out a letter regarding booking appointments and this should be done as soon as possible.
Next week the children will be given a big homework task to complete based on our topic. They will have two weeks to complete this and the details will be given out on Monday.
Have a great week.
Big Homework: Due Friday 12th February 2016
This term’s big homework task is to present a short class talk on the life of Mary Queen of Scots.
Your talk should be no less than 2 minutes and should include a variety of information such as;
Dates of her birth and death and other significant events.
Places she lived.
Important people in her life.
Any other information you consider to be relevant or interesting.
You will be given some time for research in class but the majority of this task should be completed at home.
You can use pictures, PowerPoint or any props you would like to enhance your talk.
You should try to memorise your talk as much as possible rather than reading it out.
You have two weeks to complete this; I look forward to hearing all your hard work.
This week we’ve been very busy learning and reciting our Robert Burns poems in class. Well done to Ryan McKie and Lauren Anderson who will be representing the class at the school Burns assembly today.
Next Tuesday we are having our Scots afternoon where visitors from the local community come in to watch the children sing and perform their Scots poems. Primary 4 and 4/3 will also be showing off some of the Ceilidh dances we learned for our Christmas party back in December.
Next Thursday we are visiting Linlithgow Palace where Mary Queen of Scots was born and we are really looking forward to it. Please ensure your child dresses warmly and brings a snack and packed lunch with them on the day.
Quite a few children are still forgetting their PE kit on almost a weekly basis. We have outdoor PE every Monday (weather permitting) and indoor PE every Wednesday and pupils require appropriate kit on those days. Thank you.
Have a great week.
We have been busy in class this week starting our new Mary Queen of Scots topic and are already finding out some interesting information about her life.
We have a trip planned to Linlithgow Palace in a coupe of weeks to learn about the time Mary spent there and we are very excited about it.
On Monday (18th) we are going to be reciting our Burns poems in class and two children will be chosen to perform these next Friday at our Burns assembly.
We still have a lot of children forgetting PE kit on a weekly basis despite numerous reminders. The day for indoor PE is written in homework diaries weekly. Outdoor PE is always on a Monday and indoor PE on a Wednesday and any change to this will be noted in homework diaries on a Monday morning.
Can you please ensure that you are checking and signing the homework diary weekly once your child has completed their homework for the week?
Have a good week,
Happy New Year and welcome back. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and Hogmanay and enjoyed the break.
Thank you so much for all the lovely gifts I received, they were very much appreciated.
We have such a busy term ahead of us and a lot to get done before Easter.
This term our topic in class will be Mary Queen of Scots. We will be learning all about her life and her place in history.
There will be a big homework task based on our topic given out in a few weeks for the children to complete.
Normal homework will resume on Monday. Our reading homework is going to be slightly different this term and details of this will be sent home in jotters next week.
Please ensure that your child is completing their spelling and reading homework weekly (as well as maths when it is given out) and that they are being returned on time in order for jotters to be marked and given back out for the next lot of homework.
This term our outdoor PE will continue to be on a Monday and indoor PE on a Wednesday so please ensure your child has appropriate kit on those days, this includes shoes for outdoor gym as it can be difficult for them to run and take part in games and activities when wearing boots or wellies.
Please can you ensure that all your child’s clothing is labelled with their name when coming into school as this avoids confusion when changing for gym or when jumpers and cardigans are taken off in class. This includes gym kits as the clothes can often be very similar and the children do not always recognise their own.
Children have been given a Robert Burns poem in class today to bring home which they are required to learn and will be reciting in class on Monday 18th January. Two children will then be picked based on this recitation to perform their poems at our Burns assembly that Friday (22nd). Please help your child to practise this as much as possible between now and then.
Well we’ve finally made it to the holidays. Well done to the boys and girls who have worked very hard this term, I’m sure they’re looking forward to some well earned time off.
We all had a great time at the pantomime at Howden Park Centre on Tuesday, thank you very much to the parent helpers who came along. I think it got us all very much in the festive spirit.
The boys and girls also enjoyed their party last Friday and had a great time showing off the Scottish dances we have learned in school.
After the holidays we will continue to have outdoor PE on a Monday and indoor PE on a Wednesday so please ensure your child has appropriate kit on those days.
We will not have homework the first week back as the children do not return to school until Wednesday the 6th January, normal spelling and reading homework will resume the following week (beginning 11th January)
Hope you all have a great holiday and Santa is good to you 🙂
