A Great Wee Burns Supper

Thank you to everyone who attended our nursery Burns Celebration. It was a great success and the children really enjoyed their Haggis, Tatties and Neeps.

The nursery will be focusing on the properties of 2d shape and will be encouraging the children to find shapes in their everyday environment.  Parents and carers can help by looking for squares, triangles, circles and rectangles at home.

The children have also been interested in the Winter Olympics and we will be learning about different winter sports.

Box Clever contents will be focusing on the signs of spring and we hope to take the children on a spring walk – after the snow has cleared.

World Book Day is on Thursday 1st March and the nursery will be celebrating with a Book Launch. Parents and carers are invited to join us for stories, hot chocolate, croissants and toast at 10.30 (am session) and 14.30 (pm session). Children are allowed to come to nursery in their pyjamas

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone. The children and staff have all returned from the Christmas break full of energy and ready to learn lots of new things.

The recent winter weather has given us lots of learning opportunities and the children have been exploring the properties of ice and the animals that live in icy places, such as the Arctic and Antarctic.

We have also been learning about patterns, and how to match and sort. At home, you could help extend this learning by talking about things that are the same e.g colours, shapes, toys.

Over the next few weeks, the nursery will be implementing a new language strategy called Word Boost. We will still be using our Box Clever sessions, as we all know how much the children love this. The recent box ” Going to the Shop” also included a visit to the local shop, giving the children the opportunity to use their new language in a practical way.  More details of the new scheme will be follow.

We would like to thank everyone who bought a Show and Tell item in from home. The children loved showing off their presents from Santa and it was great to hear them using their describing words.

Could we please remind parents and careers that the children do go outside in all weathers, and ask that they have appropriate outdoor footwear and clothing.

Merry Christmas

The children have been very busy over the past two weeks.

Their Christmas Singalong was a great success. They were all star performers and should be very proud of what they have achieved this term. The staff certainly are.

They had a great time visiting Eric the Elf and helping him to get the presents ready for Santa and they enjoyed their Christmas Lunch too.

The Christmas party was great fun and Santa was very impressed with our girls and boys.

The nursery staff would like to wish all the children, parents, carers and their families a very merry Christmas and thank everyone for their help with our festive activities.

We look forward to seeing you all next year. Nursery will reopen on Tuesday 9th January 2018.

The Three Little Pigs

The children have been busy learning about the story of the three little pigs. We have been investigating different versions of the story, in books and cartoons. The children decided to build a house of straw and a house of sticks, so that they could act out the story.

WINTER WEATHER

We would like to remind parents and careers that the children go outside to play in all weathers, so please make sure your child has warm, waterproof clothing and footwear at nursery. Thank you.

BOX CLEVER

Thank you to everyone who attended the first Box Clever session this week. We hope you all enjoyed the session and look forward to seeing you all again next week. We have a lovely surprise planned.

Happy Halloween

The children have been very busy at nursery. The Halloween party was a great success.  The children took part in a Halloween parade through the school, carved a pumpkin and “dooked” for apples.

We also had a visit from Louise Renicks, who won the Gold medal for Judo at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She talked to us about how she trained to be an athlete, how healthy eating helped her and the places she had travelled to for competitions.

We have been using the Box Clever resource in nursery to help develop the children’s language skills. The children are really enjoying these sessions and we are inviting parents and careers to come and join in the fun too. A letter as been sent out advising the details of the adult sessions. Each parent that attends will receives special gift for their child, so please ensure you return your acceptance slip to nursery by Wednesday allow staff to order the gifts.

Please remember our door is always open. If you have any queries, please talk to a member of staff.

Welcome To Nursery

We would like to welcome all our returning children back and hope you all had a lovely summer.  We have had a busy first two weeks back, with lots of new children joining us.

The morning children enjoyed a walk round the village last week.  They watched the bin men empty the bins, saw some big trucks and buses, and the shop and Post Office. They even helped the staff with directions.   They also helped out the staff by making the play doh for both sessions.

The children in the afternoon session have been talking about volcanoes, so the staff helped them to build their own from salt dough. Once their creation is complete, we will hopefully be able to make it erupt. Watch this space for eruption photographs.

We are looking forward to the new school year, and the adventures that the children will take us on.

Staff are always available if there is anything you would like to discuss.

Sports Day Take Two

Well done to all our afternoon athletes.  They proved to be worthy champions and deserved their medals and ice cream.  Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to cheer the children on. It really does give the children a boost to be cheered on.

Our Morning Champions

What a great Sports Day we had for the morning session.  All the children did really well and proved that they were worthy champions.  They all earned their medals and ice cream and should be very proud of themselves.  A big thank you to P6 for all their help and to all the Mummys, Daddys, Grans, Grandads and carers who came to support the children.

The sun may not have shone, but our wee sporting superstars definitely did.  Well done boys and girls.
