The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear…

Today, the last day of school, had probably the most successful carol concert ever. The tickets were sold out, the hall was full and the brass band was playing while people were settling down.  The songs were all traditional carols that people sing yearly. The readers were very clear when they said their lines and we even got a couple of parents to sing along with us!  The brass band were playing things like Little Donkey and Rudolph.

Our buddies sent letters to Santa and today a special hand written reply from Father Christmas himself arrived!  We took the letters down to the classes and read them to our buddies. Our buddies were so happy to see us and were amazed when we read the replies to them. They liked that every letter was different in a lot of ways. Some people wanted strange things like real unicorns and motorbikes! They liked that every letter had exactly what they asked for and that every letter had different decorations and colours.

Hope you all have a very Very Christmas from primary 7!

Partytastic in P1/2!!

Well done to all the boys and girls from P1 and P1/2 for a fantastic party yesterday.  Everyone looked so smart and behaved so well.  All of the children joined in really well and showed off their funky moves and good manners!  It was great fun and we even had a special visitor!  Well done everyone.

A very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Mrs Lloyd and P1/2!

Written by Xander, P6

This week the P6s went to Bubble Gum and Fluff and made tile pictures. You could make a candle, a present or a stable design. We had great fun!

We also had a medal winner this week! Gary won a rosette for an amazing piece of artwork at his old school. He received it in the post. There was great excitement!

In Science we made a rock cycle out of starbursts. First we chopped the starburst into tiny pieces then stuck them all back together. Then we put it in a bag and flattened it in the bag and melted it.

We have been learning about fractions in Maths. Some of us made fraction animals, here’s a picture of one.

080

We also had generational learning Number Talks homework. We all thought it was fun to do to see how our families work out sums in their head. The results were all different!

We played a game called Blooms Balloons today in our reading groups. We had to catch a balloon and ask the type of Blooms question written on it

We have been practising hard to learn all the words for our carol service and our sing-a-long on Wednesday afternoon. P6/7 are singing All I Want for Christmas. We filmed us in action and have entered a competition with other schools in West Lothian. The video with the most views wins!! We will find out on Wednesday if we have won!

P6/7 wishes you all a nice Christmas!

P1/2 Go Back in Time …………..

P1/2 started the week off with some emotions work.  We spoke about what makes us happy and sad and even tried making some happy and sad faces.  After that, we tried hard to think of other feelings words that mean the same and are beginning to get better at this.

We have been practising our coin recognition and even shopped in Mrs Lloyd’s shop for some tasty foods!  We had to take the right coins out of our purses so that we could pay for the items!

As well as learning about money, we worked independently to practise our adding and take away skills.

In literacy we learned the ‘qu’ sound and practised all of our sounds learned so far alongside our tricky action words.  We have been practising blending our sounds together to make words and remembered that the black sound should be in the middle!

Thank you to Miss Graham who helped us with a special painting job last week.  This week we decorated our painted works of art.  Keep a look out for these fantastic masterpieces making their way home soon!

In topic work, we have been learning about some of the similarities and differences between toys now and toys from long ago.  We looked at some pictures online and had a great discussion about all different sorts of toys and we even pretended to go back in time in our time machine to look at some toys from long ago!  We sorted out some different toys in the classroom into old and new toys.  It was really fun!

Finally, a couple of weeks ago Mrs Stewart set all the teachers a special challenge.  We were all given a gift of an item from the poundshop which we had to include in one of our lessons before Christmas.  P1/2 received a folding box!

Above is what is used to look like because now……………….

…….we’ve turned the box into a stable and used it to explore the nativity story and to make our very own nativity scene.  We started off by brainstorming what people would need to be included then thought about the materials that we would need to make it before we all worked together to choose a part to make.  Well done P1/2 – another brilliant week.  Keep up the good work!
