We can’t believe we are into our final term in P6! Where has the time gone?

We came back and got straight on with our learning, starting with Area in Maths.

Jordan – I liked counting up in halves and quarters to find the area of different shapes.

Rachel – I liked learning how to find the area of a right-angled triangle using a formula.

Megan – I enjoyed learning about area – it was easier than I thought!

We also drew our Float Portraits –

Erin – I used all the skills I have been learning about tone and shade to do my portrait.

Eve – I learned about Frozen because I have never actually seen the film!

We  started our new science topic this week with the help of Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore wrote to us and we also came up with our very first spell!

Jamie – I used lots of verbs and adjectives and learned some scientific words for my spell.

Sophie – I liked naming our groups as the names we came up with are really cool.

We learned how to have a positive mental attitude and also had a debate on homelessness this morning as well!   Phew we are ready to relax this weekend!

Mrs Haddifon has been really pleased with how quickly we settled into our new term and how hard we all worked this week.

Have a great weekend!

P6s – Happy Easter

There have been lots of exciting things going on today for Easter. We had a good morning at church hearing all about the Easter story and singing our songs.  Sasha, Emma B, Emma T and Katie did a great job with the strings group. We are all very impressed by their talents.

Well done to Katie who won the school Easter colouring competition today.

We also had lots of fun today at Golden Time making Easter bonnets. They were very creative and we had lots of great ideas. Aaron and Shaun won with their Easter bunny bonnet.

We hope everyone has a lovely holiday and we are looking forward to another exciting term ahead!

We took part in Autism Awareness Day this week and learned lots of interesting things:

Lewis : I learned that children with Autism prefer to have quiet classes and not have overly-colourful wall displays.

Adam: Children with Autism have smaller classrooms and can work in wee booths instead of at a group table.

Ava: The colour for Autism is blue and the symbol is a piece of a jigsaw.

We have also been learning about Easter around the world and enjoyed making our biscuits in Spanish.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break.

HAPPY EASTER FROM 6H!!

Our Learning Highlights.

This week in Maths we have been learning about the mean, median, mode and range.

Sam – it was fun!

Nadia – it was quite hard.

Lewis – I liked all of them because they are all different.

Ava – I liked it because from one set of numbers you can get different answers.

We have also been working on our Reading and Comprehension.

Taylor – it was fun exploring the different meanings of words

Emma – some of it was easy and some of it wasn’t! But it was fun!

Our mini – topic this term has been about Electricity.

Rachel – I learned ways I could be electrocuted!

Lucy – I liked learning about how circuits worked.

Sophie – I liked learning about all the symbols.

Lewis – I learned that putting a fork in a toaster was an electrical hazard! Don’t worry I would never actually do it!

It’s SHOOOWTIME!! Yes, rehearsals are complete, costumes are ironed, and we are ready to put on a fabulous show for everyone!  We have had an amazing time putting the show together and have learned a huge variety of new skills covering Numeracy, Literacy, Science & Technology and Expressive Arts. As Olivia is a mash up of other musicals we have learned about them all, as well as people like George Bernard Shaw, and plays like Pygmalion. We are even writing and producing our own films using all the skills we have learned this term. Get us!

Mrs Stutt joined us for a Mental Maths lesson this week and we showcased our mental addition skills – something that we are practicing a lot of, and getting better at.  Also our Sports Elective started this week and we had a ball!  We talked about it during circle time and we all agreed that it is a resounding success and a great opportunity for us to improve our skills in our chosen area.  In fact, we loved it!

So all in all, a great week for 6H – with an even more exciting week to come!  See you at Olivia!

P6H Nearly Showtime!

Busy! Busy! Busy! We  are getting ever closer to showtime for Olivia and we have been rehearsing lots this week. We had the chance to watch Oliver too, so have been busy writing film reviews and character biographies.  We are (pretty much!) word perfect and the Flower Sellers even had the chance to perform at our Opening Ceremony.  Talking of which, did you make it along?  We got the chance to view our work and we are all really proud of our efforts. But remember you can still buy our artwork via the school office if you want to.

Our Bake Sale and Games Morning happens on Wednesday for p1-p7 pupils, so please remember to bring some money – all proceeds go towards the cost of putting on our show.  Thanks to Mrs Jamieson for all her sterling hard work in helping us put this together.  Oh and if anyone wishes to bake then all donations will be gratefully received!

P6H

Tickets for Olivia are now on sale so make sure you are at THE Show Of The Year!!  All the best people are coming, and it is most definitely the best show in Bathgate !  Get your tickets before it’s a sellout!!  Posters are up all over the school, so please tell your family and friends.

We are having a Victorian Fair on the 4th March for all pupils in the school.  Each class will be given a time slot to  come and play Victorian games like Splat the Rat, and have the opportunity to buy cake and candy.  All money raised will go towards covering the costs of putting on our performance, and as part of our maths is learning about profit and loss and running a business, we have to make the books balance!

We are all really excited about our Art Exhibition on Thursday.  We used skills of line, tone and shading to create charcoal drawings of Olivia’s London, and the results are superb – we hope you think so too!

Have a great weekend!!

We have really enjoyed creating our Art work this week, and can guarantee you will be amazed!  So please remember to pop along to our exhibition at the opening of our new gym hall!

Our rehearsals for Olivia are going well and we are now able to sing and say our lines without our scripts.  We have been measured for costumes, and are nearly finished designing some of the scenery. We have seen bits of Annie, My Fair Lady and Oliver and this has helped us put together the history of our characters and create biographies for them.  Look out for our posters around the school and do come and see our show!

P6H

We have had a musical-filled week, rehearsing for Olivia and researching characters to write descriptions and biographies.  Our first character was Fagin and it was interesting how we all came up with similar portraits of him without seeing a picture.    He was a mean man who didn’t look after children at all!

In Maths we started to look at, and learn more about, division and we are all doing well.   We will need our mental maths skills to be tip top too, when it comes to our show as we are in charge of the budget and there will be plenty of sums to do!

We got our Belgium letters out this week as well – we can’t believe its that time of year already – before we know it we will be in P7 and in Belgium!!

P6H

Happy New Year!!  Well 6H have entered the new term on fire with lots of great learning.  We have been busy learning our Scots Poems for our competition, and have come across quite a few new words:

Jamie – bairnies

Carter – auld and frien’s

Erin – stoor

Charlie – disjaiskit.

Also this week we have been learning about angles and made some with our bodies!  Adam treated us to right angled headstands and straight angled splits.  We asked Mrs Haddifon to try it but she suddenly had a

a sore back!

Have a good week!

P6H

We finished our topic with a bang this week with a visit from Tesco who prepared a Caribbean Fruit Tasting for us.  We tried all sorts of different fruits, some of which we had never even heard of!

Joe – it was really good, I liked the big oranges the best.

Adam – Amazing, best fruit ever!

Nadia – Sensational!

Rachel – It was really good and I loved the coconut and pineapple, although I wasn’t too keen on the mango!

Also a big thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Afternoon.  We had a great time and loved organising all our games and food for you all.

Mrs Haddifon – You all worked very hard organising the event, and I was very impressed with your leadership and creative skills.  It was great to see everyone sharing their learning. I am very proud of you all!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!

FROM P6H

P6H

A very busy week in 6H with our final music workshop, the Pantomime and our Christmas party. Phew!

First of all our music workshops.  We have had an amazing ten weeks learning about improvisation, how to make music using apps, hardware hats and makey makey.  Feel free to ask us all about it we are great at explaining it! Our Instructor said we were the best class at using different objects to make sounds.

We all had a great time at our Christmas Party, with lots of  games and fun.  A big thank you to Mr Stutt for the fabulous music – it was much better than Mrs Haddifon wanting to play Michael Buble….

And finally to the Pantomime.  We ploughed through the snow and made it to the Regal Theatre for Robinson Crusoe.  Oh no you didn’t! Oh yes we did! And what a great tome we had!  All the traditional panto lines were included and with some fabulous audience participation it was a great afternoon!

We hope to see you all on Thursday 18 December at 3pm for our Topic Showcase.  Come with us on a trip to our Caribbean Island, where the temperature is hot, the cocktails are tropical and the learning is awesome!  What more could you want in this cold weather?

See you there.

p6h

Another busy week for us with rehearsals for Olivia coming along a treat. We have amazed Mrs Haddifon with our acting and singing skills, and we are all very excited about sharing our talents with you at the P6 Show.
On Wednesday we took a trip to the Caribbean via our imagination and wrote fantastic poems using Similies. We followed this up with work on our display which is looking fabulous! We have an underwater scene, a Caribbean Fruit Stall and an amazing Smoothie Bar.

p6s

We had a great week back after our relaxing October holidays. On Wednesday Ray’s Grandad came in to school to  do a K’NEX challenge with us. We had to work with a partner to design and make a moon buggy which could hold a shoe and a rubber. Once we had made our models we had to test them on the ramp and modify them to make them better if anything fell off. At the end of the session we all took our models in to the corridor and tested them. Our designs were all very unique and most of us managed to keep the shoe and rubber on the buggy. Abby and Erin’s moon buggy travelled the furthest so they both won a prize. It was a super morning and we all had great fun! Here are some of the pictures from the day…

P6s have been really busy this week developing our understanding of Space. We have started to use our note taking skills to gather research for our fact files which are really taking shape! In Writing we were working on using connectives to extend our sentences and wrote diary entries pretending we were on a mission to the moon. In Art we created space themed wax resist pictures which are looking fabulous!

This week we have started collecting golden tickets in class, Drama and in PE. We receive these for working super hard and trying our best. By the end of the week we even had our first prize box winner!

We are all looking forward to a lovely long weekend and another busy week next week.

P6h

Another busy week here in P6H.  We have been working on our writing this week and all travelled to Space on a mission.  We used a variety of connectives to join our sentences and all landed back safely. Phew!

We started building our Rocket this week and can’t wait until we have built it.  You might even get to see it at our Assembly, but only if we can move it because it is turning into a huge structure!

Maths saw us working on 24 hour time and we did lots of activities to develop our understanding.

A huge well done to Charlie who is our Pupil of the Week this week.  Have a great few days off everyone.  This is P6H over and out.

p6s

It has been another busy week in P6s! This week we had a visit from the SSPCA where we had a workshop on ‘Wildlife Welfare’. We learned loads of new facts about animals, got to know more about the SSPCA’s job and learned what we should do if we come across an injured animal.

In Maths and Numeracy we have been continuing to learn about time. This week we have been focussing on calculating durations of time and reading digital time which we are going to keep on practising at home and in school. We have also been learning more about Space and have done some imaginary writing where we wrote letters pretending we were going on a mission to space.

On Thursday we went to visit our buddies where we helped them to make a bowl for the Three Little Bears with papier mache. It was really messy but we had a great time and love spending time helping the P1s.

Mrs Stutt would like to thank everyone who made it along to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ on Wednesday. It was great to see so many people and lovely to meet you all.
