Roadtrip USA in class star

We have enjoying learning all about America! We have learned about different states and landmarks within them. We even built the Empire State building using Lego and the Golden Gate Bridge using art straws and string and tried to build them to scale. We were learning about the job as president and all feel it must be a pretty stressful job! If we were president, we would like to provide healthcare like our NHS and decrease the number of people who are homeless. We are now going to be learning about world war 2 and looking forward to it!

We were excited to be back swimming again with Kyle and Ross our instructors. Jayden recieved swimmer of the week for improving his forward stroke so well and following all instructions! Week done Jayden!

We also have been working hard on our class tasks. We had to choose a famous American celebrity, past or present, and research information about them. We then peer assessed each other during the talks and gave feedback. We were looking for for appropriate pace, volume, clarity, eye contact and content.

Here are some of our highlights:

Joe – I really enjoyed learning about the president’s job

Cody – I enjoyed the Burn’s supper as I liked the Irn Bru

Yolie – I liked the Burn’s Supper as the haggis was nice

David – I liked building the Golden Gate Bridge

Cameron – I enjoyed doing my class talk as I got really good feedback

Have a nice weekend!

Budgeting can be fun! By Class Star

Welcome back everyone to school. It is good being back! We hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year and that Santa was good to you.

This week we were learning to budget money by organising a Burn’s Supper. We are very excited to have our own Burn’s Supper and looking forward to eating Haggis, Neeps and tatties, Irn Bru and shortbread!!! We had £45 to spend on a main course, sides, drinks, desserts and extras including table decorations and we had to make sure we stayed within our budget which was a little tricky.

We had fun learning about M.C. Escher’s Impossible Pictures and drew our patterns in the same styles as the artist.

We also learned about famous American landmarks and which states they can be found and constructed them using our chosen media.

Next week we will be applying our budgeting skills when ordering and buying food for our class snack during Out and About.

If you have any questions about our learning please just ask us below.

Have a lovely weekend!

Christmas fun! By class star

We had such a fun time at our Christmas parties this week! Look at some of our photos! We also loved the panto, oh yes we did! It was about Cinderella and was really funny especially when they got the teachers up to dance. I don’t think the teachers found it as much as we did! We had fun making gingerbread men and melted snowman cakes too!

Have a lovely Christmas and New year

Class Star in Balbardie to New York!

We learned loads of new facts about New York this week. We improved our map skills looking at New York on the map and learned about keys to symbolise land features for example mountains, rivers and capital cities. We also watched a fascinating video about an aeroplane landing into the Hudson River! True fact! Did you know that the population of New York is 8 537 673!!!!!!

Here are this week’s highlights:

Cody – I enjoyed learning division with higher numbers this week and learning that multiplication and division are related.

Jayden – I enjoyed doing BIG Maths this week and getting 17/17 in thirty seconds! Integration was fun too especially meeting my new teacher.

David – I like learning about New York and finishing my dream catcher.

Yolie – Golden Time with my integration class was fun!

Adam – I had fun multiplying with double digits. It was challenging but really good.

Cameron – Ok so here we go again, I loved learning about New York! Ok, truth or dare… are all New York taxis yellow? ………………. It’s true!

Joe –  Making my leaflet about New York was good fun, I liked researching using the ipad.

So see you next week 😀

Fun in Class Star!

We have had a fantastic start to the month as we all have been working hard! Mrs Gray and Miss Fisher are impressed by us! We have been planning our new topic all about the USA! We would like to learn about previous Presidents, fashion, state laws and celebrities past and present.

We have been practising our times tables and improving our mental recall. We have enjoyed torturing Mrs Gray and putting her to the test on her mental recall, she was pretty good!

We have a new class rewards system called Balbardie Bargains where we collect money for doing good deeds. We can then buy rewards from the store including Rainbow Room , DS day, long choose, sensory fun and a homework pass! Each item is worth a different value and we can decide when we would like to buy a reward. We are super excited to start earning money! (not real money unfortunately!).

Have a lovely weekend

Spring Fun in P3/2

We have enjoyed having Mrs Gray and Mrs Spence and being back for a whole week this week! We have been learning about Spring time, here are some facts we have learned:

  • Frogs come out of hibernation in spring time
  • New life begins for some animals like lambs and chicks
  • Bees begin to make honey
  • Different types of flowers included tulips, daffodils and crocuses

We used various art materials to create a Spring diorama which was great fun! We also having been learning that horses have foals, cows have calves and rabbits have kittens believe it or not! We have learned how to write acrostic and shape poems all about Spring. We added some similes to our writing including ‘the rabbit’s  fur is as soft as marshmallows’ and ‘the chick is as yellow as the sun’.

Circle time was fun with Mrs Spence playing killer 12 and we started Special person which was really exciting! We had to put our names in a balloon and when we popped it a name was chosen. This person became the special and they can choose their class job for the week, their seat in class and have a comfy cushion to sit on!

We are looking forward to Mrs Aitken coming back next week!

Have a lovely long weekend!

P3/2

Dinosaur Fun in P1a!

We have enjoyed learning more about dinosaurs this week! Here are some interesting facts we have learned so far:

– Dinosaurs that eat meat are called carnivores

– Dinosaurs that eat plants are called herbivores

– Dinosaurs that eat both plants and meat are called omnivores

– Some dinosaurs can fly and have wings as long as 11 metres!

– Some dinosaurs can swim

– A T-Rex has very sharp teeth to eat meat with!

– A Brachiosaurus has a long neck as it is a herbivore and it uses its long neck to reach the leaves at the top of tall trees

– Some dinosaurs have spikes on their backs and tails to use to protect themselves if another dinosaur attacks them

– Dinosaurs are now extinct (thankfully!). That means they have died out a no longer exist.

We hoped you have learned something new from our blog this week!

Have a nice weekend!
