At Newton Nursery we follow Stirling Council’s Admission Policy.
What entitlement do 3 & 4 year olds have to early learning and childcare provision?
All 3 and 4 years olds are entitled to a fully-funded place, which is 15 hours 50 minutes per week, term time (38 weeks) over an academic session
Children usually begin nursery at 3 years old and remain until they go to primary school.
Children aged 3 years old generally become eligible for government funded places at the start of the term following their third birthday:
- Children who are 3 between 1st March and 31st August are eligible for a funded place from the start of school-term in August.
- Children who are 3 between 1st September and 31st December are eligible for a funded place from the start of school-term in January.
- Children who are 3 between 1st January and 28th February are eligible for a funded place from the start of school-term in April.
At Newton Nursery, where capacity allows, children who are entitled in respect of the above listed dates of birth may be admitted from the day of their third birthday although their funding entitlement may not yet have begun. Parents will be charged at the standard rate as per Stirling Councils charging policy (currently £2.85 per hour) until their child is eligible for funding.
Children whose birth date is after the 28 February are not entitled to funding until the beginning of the next school session in August. Where there is capacity to do so, places may be sold to parents who wish to purchase childcare in the final term of the session. Charges will again be applied at the standard rate as per the Council’s charging policy.
At Newton Nursery we offer parents flexibility to choose the sessions which best suit their needs. We offer 6 two and a half hour sessions per week within the school day and parents can choose how this can be organised. If parents choose to send their child for any more than one full day then they will incur a cost of £2.85 to cover any extra lunch hours. For example if parents choose 4 morning sessions and 1 full day or 4 afternoon sessions and 1 full day there will be no cost. However, if for example parents choose 2 full days and 2 half days or 3 full days then there will be a charge for the second and third lunch hour.
To enrol your child at Newton Nursery please contact the school office for an application form. We accept application forms throughout the academic year however advise parents for the August intake to have their completed forms to us by the beginning of March of that same year.
Priority is given to children living in the council area for a nursery place.
We cannot always guarantee places or parents’ choice of sessions but we always do our best to accommodate needs. Applications are allocated using a points system which takes account of both children’s needs and family circumstances. Parents must note on their application a 2nd and 3rd choice of establishment.
