Fintry Primary School Parent Council Constitution

Fintry Primary School (FPS) has established a Parent Council (PC).   The purpose of this Constitution is to clearly state:

Aims and objectives

  1. To promote co-operation, communication and partnership between parents (‘parent’ refers to parent and carer) and the school (‘school’ includes school and nursery).
  2. To represent and discuss parents’ views and wishes on the education and welfare of pupils.
  3. To build links and involve parents with the wider learning community.
  4. To support the school in its work with pupils and parents.
  5. To communicate PC activities with wider parent forum.
  6. To support the school in building links and involvement with the local community.

Membership and school staff representation

  1. Membership will be agreed at the AGM.
  2. Any parent of a pupil currently at FPS can volunteer to become a member of the PC.
  3. The membership will be a minimum of 5 parents and a maximum of 12, with a minimum of 1 parent with a child at the nursery. In the event that number of volunteers exceeds 12, selection will be based on equal representation of school year groups.
  4. The Head teacher will attend council meetings, informing parents of school activities, the curriculum and encouraging links with other staff and Stirling Council.
  5. The PC can co-opt members from the community to provide specialist skills or knowledge
  6. The office bearers (Chairperson and Secretary – and others as required) will be elected at the AGM.
  7. Chairperson’s tenure is restricted to 2 years.

Meetings

  1. The PC will hold a meeting once per term, although parents or PC members can request an additional meeting or EGM to deal with matters that arise
  2. The AGM, which is open and advertised to all parents will be held in the first term of each school year.
  3. The meetings will be deemed to be quorate if half of the number of total parent members is present.
  4. All meetings will be minuted and published on the school website and school notice-board.
  5. Non members are welcome to attend with prior notification of the Chair.

Changes to the Constitution and Dissolution

  1. Changes / additions must be made at an AGM or EGM called for the purpose

Finance

  1. The PC is responsible for the distribution of funds raised by the FPS Parents Fundraising Committee (FRC).
  2. The Head teacher can request funds from the PC for activities to enhance the pupils’ learning experience.
  3. The Office Bearers of the FRC are responsible for releasing the funds.
