Literacy

This term we are continuing to work on our 5 a day each day in literacy; reading to ourselves, reading to a friend, listening to a friend read, word work and work on writing. Our focus in reading is to answer questions about what I have read when the answer is in the text – literal and when I have to read between the lines and look for clues (inferential).

Maths

Primary 1 are counting beyond 10 and adding within 10.

Primary 2 are exploring how multiply.

Primary 3 are exploring the commutative law through arrays and extending their understanding of multiplication learning lots of multiplication tables.

Our topic this term is STEM; Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We explored the properties of different materials to solve practical challenges, to protect Humpty Dumpty.  We designed and built water filters.  We have explored engineering, designing and constructing models of towers using spaghetti and marshmallows.  We are looking forward to using Clicker 7 to write reports.  We are also going to try some coding.  At home we are using the Curiosity Project to further explore STEM challenges.  Our  final challenge will be in the last week of term.
