P4/5

Primary 4/5

Miss McIntosh & Mrs McCandlish

Primary 4/5 are ready for a very busy term with lots of exciting learning taking place!

Primary 4/5 are preparing for the future with their interdisciplinary theme ‘Our Future World’. One skill we will definitely need in the future is to be able use ICT effectively. The children will be developing their digital skills in a variety of ways. They will enhance their typing skills, aiming to use both hands, learn how to produce engaging PowerPoints, create their own books using Book Creator and begin to learn about and use coding.

As part of our last theme Sensational Scots P4/5 learned about Scottish inventors. This inspired the children to create their own inventions for the future. The children have been developing their designs and transform these designs into models. We also discussed the problem of litter and have decided to create future inventions to help solve this problem.

We look forward to sharing our exciting ideas for the future with you!

We are thoroughly enjoying our Woodlands Learning with Mrs Findlay who joins us on a Thursday from Fintry Primary!

We are taking part in the Scots Sang Project with Amy Lord to prepare for our Scottish evening on 7th June! As well as this we are very lucky because we are learning to play the ukulele with Mrs McLean!

Reading:

For reading this term so far we have been focusing on Non-fiction texts. We learned about the features of non-fiction and how these features can help us find the information we are looking for. After that used KWFL grids to come up with questions we wanted to know more about and used the non-fiction books to help us find the answers. We are going to turn our findings into our own books!

After that we will be working on two novels written by Michael Morpurgo: the ‘Butterfly Lion’ and ‘Cool’. We will be using reading detectives clues to investigate the choices made by the author.

Our writing focus this term is persuasive. The children will create pieces of writing highlighting potential problems for the future, e.g. Global Warming. Finally, we will be using our writing skills to create adverts for our future inventions.

In Numeracy we are going to be developing our multiplication, division and knowledge of fractions (P4) and developing our algebraic thinking (P5). We will also be learning about time, money and information handling.

Children will continue to take part in a variety of mental maths activities to support their knowledge and use of the four operations. We will also be investigating different types of problems to explore different ways of approaching maths questions.

Another Busy Term for Primary 4/5!

The Communication Group will update the class pages during the fortnightly working groups. Have a look below to find out what they had to say…
