This may be to support accuracy, speed, comprehension or confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Paired reading is a technique used to develop skills in younger or less fluent readers.\u00a0 An S1\/S2 reader is paired with a fluent reader (in this case an S6 volunteer) for one thirty minute session per week. It is based on a multi-sensory, phonics based programme which also includes a high level of over-learning.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the support reader is to listen, encourage, and support the younger reader to attempt unknown words as he\/she reads aloud and to check comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>Studies of pupil pairing have shown that reading with peers is more beneficial than reading with a parent or adult.<\/p>\n<p>S6 students involved in the project will be expected to help their partner choose books and keep a joint record of what they have read together.\u00a0 This will require a thirty minute block per week, out of subject classes.
