ADD\u00a0can sometimes go unnoticed because the symptoms may be less obvious.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>Symptoms in children and teenagers<\/h2>\n<p>The symptoms of ADHD in children and teenagers are well defined, and they&#8217;re usually noticeable before the age of 6. They occur in more than 1 situation, such as at home and at school.<\/p>\n<h3>Inattentiveness<\/h3>\n<p>The main signs of inattentiveness are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>having a short attention span and being easily distracted<\/li>\n<li>making careless mistakes\u00a0\u2013\u00a0for example, in schoolwork<\/li>\n<li>appearing forgetful or losing things<\/li>\n<li>being unable to stick to tasks that are tedious or time-consuming<\/li>\n<li>appearing to be unable to listen to or carry out instructions<\/li>\n<li>constantly changing activity or task<\/li>\n<li>having difficulty organising tasks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Hyperactivity and\u00a0impulsiveness<\/h3>\n<p>The main signs of hyperactivity and\u00a0impulsiveness are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings<\/li>\n<li>constantly fidgeting<\/li>\n<li>being unable to concentrate on tasks<\/li>\n<li>excessive physical movement<\/li>\n<li>excessive talking<\/li>\n<li>being unable to wait their turn<\/li>\n<li>acting without thinking<\/li>\n<li>interrupting conversations<\/li>\n<li>little or no sense of danger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These\u00a0symptoms can cause significant problems in a child&#8217;s life, such as\u00a0underachievement at school, poor social interaction with other children and adults, and problems with discipline.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be categorised into 2\u00a0types of\u00a0behavioural problems: inattentiveness, and hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
