Aims
Learners in Balfron High School follow a course based on the experiences and outcomes laid out within the Curriculum for Excellence.
It is designed to build on the work in Science that they have done in primary school and to provide a stimulating and challenging basis for further study.
It begins with a skills based topic called, “Becoming a scientist”, where scientific language and basic laboratory techniques are introduced.
This is followed by:
Our Material World.
Our Living World.
and Our Physical World.
Assessment
Various methods of assessment are used including written tests, practical assessment and research tasks.
Pupils will be involved in peer and self assessment exercises.
Progression
All learners will move on to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics in more depth and as separate subjects in S2.
