S2 Music Technology

This course aims to build skills of capturing and manipulating audio in a variety of short contexts. The work completed during the S2 Music Technology rota covers using microphones to capture voice, creating jingles with loops and putting simple sounds into animations.

S2 (2 blocks of 9 lessons)Block 1 – Radio Broadcast

  • Given a script, learn about basic recording set up and skills and record script.
    • Using loops to create a jingle of 3 or 4 parts. 
    • Importing audio sound effects.
  • Develop skills in BandLab to sequence and record the above data correctly and effectively
  • Learn to use volume automation and reverb. 

Block 2 – Sound Design for Game

  • Choose a recording of a game being played;
  • Complete in-depth planning on what will be needed;
  • Use a preset sound effects site to select and export sound files;
  • Develop skills in Cubase to sequence the above data correctly;
  • Finalise and evaluate their project;
  • Peer-assess others’ work.

The project demonstrates some knowledge of recording and using loops, consisting of:

  • A jingle which uses a number of loops and samples.
  • A script which has been recorded with some success.
The project demonstrates knowledge of recording and using loops, consisting of:

  • A jingle which makes musical sense, using a number of loops and samples over multiple tracks.
  • A script which has been recorded correctly and captured clearly with no distortion.
The project demonstrates a secure knowledge of recording, effective use of loops and FX, consisting of:

  • A creative jingle which makes musical sense, using a number of loops/samples, tracks and use of FX.
  • A script which has been recorded correctly and captured clearly with no distortion. 
  • Use of imported sounds/music to enhance the script recording.
