{"id":311,"date":"2015-06-01T14:54:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T13:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/st\/balfronhighschool\/?page_id=311"},"modified":"2023-01-11T14:54:03","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T14:54:03","slug":"positive-behaviour","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/st\/balfronhighschool\/school-policies\/positive-behaviour\/","title":{"rendered":"Relationships Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Relationships Policy 22\/23<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Expectations of Pupils:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ready:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be on time to class\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bring appropriate equipment for learning\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wear uniform<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Respectful:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">complete homework on time and with maximum effort\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">follow instructions\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">get actively involved in the lesson\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Safe:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">move round the school in a safe manner, no pushing or shoving<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ensure bags and other items are kept with you, or in a safe place<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Expectations of Staff:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">meet and greet\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have a calm and consistent approach\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">employ the \u2018clean slate\u2019 strategy\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">use the intervention stages consistently, ensuring pupils are aware of the stage they are on<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">refer to our key Rules when discussing pupil behaviour; <\/span><b>ready, respectful and safe<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recognise good behaviour first, especially those pupils who quietly and consistently follow the rules<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adopt a <\/span><b>30 second intervention<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> model when dealing with negative behaviour; state the behaviour and which rule it contradicts, explain the consequence, refer to previous good behaviour to model desired behaviour, walk away giving the learner time to reflect<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">never ignore or walk past negative behaviour<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">celebrate positive behaviour by; sending postcards, phoning home, emailing PT PS or FCLs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Recording Process:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Stage 1- <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">verbal warning\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Stage 2- \u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">demerit- this must be recorded on seemis and pupils must be aware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Stage 3-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (removed from class with work) send referral to the <\/span><b>curricular PT<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>NB<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; stage 3 is when a pupil is removed due to a behaviour issue. \u00a0It is not when a child has been removed for a discussion about their behaviour and brought back in. Neither is it when they are moved to another class to catch up on work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Stage 4-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the cases of more extreme behaviour, or persistent lack of adhering to the \u2018pupil expectations\u2019, pupils should be placed on a <\/span><b>Planned Removal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At this stage a referral should be sent to your <\/span><b>curricular PT<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><b>curricular PT<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will organise the planned removal; speak to the pupil, contact home via the \u2018planned removal\u2019 letter and forward the referral to the DHT responsible for the house the pupil is in.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DHT will then meet with the pupil before they re-enter the class to discuss the discipline issue.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DHT should also forward the referral onto the appropriate pastoral link.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Important Reminders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Monday Merit Check<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; FCLs should check who hasn\u2019t received a demerit the previous week and award them a weekly co-op. (This was a suggestion from a pupil focus group.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Other Merits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; classroom teachers should continue to give excellence, citizenship etc whenever possible.
