Important Update from the Headteacher – Saturday 7th May

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am keen to keep you updated on the situation regarding building works at our school. Work is ongoing to develop and organise a repair programme for the areas in the school that were identified with issues during precautionary building checks.

As you will understand, pupils sitting SQA exams remain our priority. As intimated yesterday these will continue to run in areas that are unaffected. Staff will meet pupils on arrival at the front of the school and direct them accordingly. We know that some of our young people depend heavily on buses so we have identified accommodation for them to wait and revise prior to and after exams. They will be directed on arrival.

We are now planning provision for pupils in S1-S3 beginning Friday 13 May. This will initially be off campus. We are working closely with senior colleagues in other schools to identify the best available locations to meet the needs of our young people at this time. Transport will be provided. This will be a temporary arrangement as we are also developing plans for alternative on-site provision.

Off-site provision for S1-S3 will be organised that reflects our integrated pupil support structure. We are committed to ensuring that the pastoral and curricular needs of young people are supported. This will be provided and overseen by the staff who know them best. We are planning to deliver all aspects of the curriculum, albeit on a revised timetable. We will be in a position to confirm this provision as early as possible next week.

There are some activities that will go ahead as planned as they are unaffected by the building work:

  • The S3 John Muir Masterclass will run as normal on Wednesday 11th May
  • S4 pupils without study leave who are following our bespoke programme will continue with a slightly amended range of activities.
  • Please note that our scheduled trips abroad will, of course, go ahead as planned.

I plan to provide you with regular updates as information becomes available. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support at this time. Please be assured that all of us at Balfron High School are doing our utmost to minimise the inevitable disruption and ensure that we deliver the best possible provision for all of our pupils.

Yours faithfully,

Elaine Bannatyne, Headteacher
