Balfron HS Update 12th May 2016

S4-S6 SQA Exams

I am pleased to report that all three levels of Maths examination ran smoothly today and we are set up and ready for the music and music technology exams tomorrow. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Chief Invigilator, Penny Bath and her team for their hard work, support and professionalism in ensuring our exams run as normal for all of our young people.

S1-S3 Transport  to partner schools

S1-3 pupils return to school tomorrow and will transported to Stirling High, St Modan’s and Wallace High Schools. Pupils and staff have been allocated to buses for the daily journeys.

Click here for the detailed document.

On arrival at Balfron High School, pupils who travel by bus will be dropped off at the usual place in front of the swimming pool.

Pupils should go directly to their fire muster point.

  • Pupils will be familiar with this. Staff will be there to meet them.
  • Lomond pupils dropped off by bus should stay in the Lomond area.
  • Campsie and Endrick pupils should walk back down to the crossing patrol and make their way to the allocated area for their form class.
  • Balfron pupils who walk to school should make their way straight to their form class fire muster points when they arrive on campus.
  • Buses will then be reorganised to transport pupils to their respective schools. These will be clearly labelled and set up to coincide with the muster points.

The same arrangement will apply on the return journey. Pupils will get off the bus and where necessary cross at the patrol to meet their usual bus home. Please be assured, there will be staff on hand to direct, supervise and help young people at these times.

Car Access

There will be no car access to the campus other than staff parking between 8:30 – 9:30am and 3:15 – 3:45pm. This is for safety reasons. As you will appreciate, there will be a higher proportion than usual of pupils crossing with the patrol. Those parents who drop their children off and pick them up, please do so on Roman Road for the duration of this arrangement. We really appreciate your assistance with this.

Catering Arrangements

All pupils will be given a new card with a £5 credit. Pupils will be supported through using catering facilities at interval and lunchtime on the first day. Pupils will be able to add money to their cards as per usual at their allocated school. Of course pupils are welcome to take a packed lunch should that be their preference.

Communication

All communication should continue to go through Balfron High School. Our admin team will ensure that you can link with the appropriate staff at the assigned school.  Please continue to make calls to Balfron High in the first instance and not directly to the partner school. A call back will be organised as a priority. This includes pupil absence, questions and  messages. We are keen to handle this centrally in the usual way. Again, we really appreciate your support with this.

Partner School Campus Arrangements

All Balfron High School pupils should stay on the campus of their partner school for the first week. This will be reviewed after this short time for those at Wallace and Stirling High Schools. All pupils stay on campus at all times at St Modan’s.

Assemblies

All Houses will start their day with a House assembly and orientation. Please be assured that our staff have been working extremely hard to ensure the best possible start to this new arrangement.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your support and patience.

Yours faithfully,

Elaine Bannatyne
