GIRFEC Documentation
What is “Getting it Right for Every Child” Forms?
The forms will begin to be used from a child’s birth and will be the core record for each child/young person. They are designed to be used as individually requried. For some children/young people who are identified as requiring additional support or intervention then a wider range of forms will start to be used to support planning. Not all forms need to be completed for a child/young person at any particular point. The practice model for using the forms is for the parents/carers and all professionals involved in working with the child/young person to bring together their different perspectives. Forms will be used to capture their shared understanding of the child/young person, their understanding of the child/young person’s needs and what is required to meet these needs.
Throughout the process it is important for professionals to develop:
- a shared understanding of the child/young person;
- a joint process of intervention;
- a joint reviewing process.
This should promote collective decision-making about the children/young people through partnership working. It does not prevent professionals and/or parents/carers from having different views about children/young people but the process should allow professionals and parents/carers to share their views in order to identification of appropriate interventions. Assessment and planning should focus on children/young people’s needs and agreeing outcomes.
