{"id":3921,"date":"2019-01-17T10:29:11","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T10:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woodpark-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk\/?page_id=3921"},"modified":"2022-02-16T10:36:07","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T10:36:07","slug":"primary-5-snow-day-activities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/woodparkprimaryschool\/primary-5-snow-day-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary 5 Snow Day Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>: Use your reading book or any book at home to complete some open ended reading tasks such as:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Create a new front cover or blurb<\/li>\r\n<li>Summarise chapters<\/li>\r\n<li>Predict what is going to happen next\u2026 no peeking!<\/li>\r\n<li>Create a new ending<\/li>\r\n<li>Rename the chapters<\/li>\r\n<li>Create a character profile<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Have a look at the open ended tasks on the Active Literacy Zone for more ideas!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Spelling<\/strong>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Using your weekly spelling words and carry out some active spelling strategies such as:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Write a letter to someone famous including all your words<\/li>\r\n<li>Rainbow writing<\/li>\r\n<li>Diacritical marking<\/li>\r\n<li>Acrostic poems<\/li>\r\n<li>Go outside and write your words in the snow!<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>If you don&#8217;t yet have your spelling words, try to find 10 spelling words about winter wether.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Writing:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Write a biography about someone you know or someone famous<\/li>\r\n<li>Write a recount of a special day or the day you have just had in the snow &#8211; Remember to write in past tense, in order and try to add in those sequential words!<\/li>\r\n<li>Make up a silly story with your spelling words<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Sum Dog \u2013 see if you can beat someone else in the class who is having a snow day!<\/li>\r\n<li>Top Marks games\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Get someone in your house to make you chimney sums<\/li>\r\n<li>Roll a dice and make your own sums<\/li>\r\n<li>Write out your times tables<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Other<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Make a model using a combination of household items and snow linked to your topic.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Using your knowledge of facts and opinions, make a poster to show your learning from your topic.
