Riddle of the Week

Well done to everyone who told me the correct answer to last week’s Riddle:

A new clothing store has a unique method of pricing items. A vest costs £20, a tie costs £15, a blouse costs £30, and a scarf costs £25. How much would a pinafore cost?

The correct answer was ‘£40 – the pricing method is £5 per letter of the item’s name’.

This week’s riddle is:

It’s raining at midnight, but the forecast for tomorrow and the next day is clear. Will there be sunny weather in 48 hours?

A house point to every pupil who shares the correct answer with Mr. Clark.

Can your child solve it without parental help or googling it?

Thank you for your continued support. Please get in touch via the school office if I can assist in any way.

Kind regards

Mr. Clark

Head Teacher

Week Beginning Monday 7th November 2022

Welcome to the Head Teacher’s blog for Week Beginning 7th November 2022.

The weather has been quite wet this week which means the child have had to be indoors for playtime and lunchtimes.  Our Primary 7 monitors have done a great job in helping to look after the younger children while they have had their break indoors.

We also recommend that children come to school with spare socks/tights etc at this time of year, especially as the rain very often comes on just as the children are arriving and leaving school.

It’s also coming to the time of year where we sometimes need to implement our Adverse Weather Plans:

Adverse Weather Plan

If our playground is inaccessible at the beginning of the school day, children will be directed to enter via the Main Entrance or Nursery Glass Doors.  The Torhead Gate will not be opened.  We will do our best to communicate this as early as possible via Text Message, Email/Learning Journals and Twitter.

In the instance of deep snow, SLC Head Teachers have the authority to delay opening until 10am.  Again, this will be communicated as quickly as possible, however, some of our communication systems are only accessible from school so this is reliant on staff being able to travel safely.

Let’s hope the Winter is a mild one so we don’t need to implement these plans too often!

M&M Performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’

We had a fantastic performance of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ delivered by M&M Theatre Productions on Monday 31st October 2022.  The show as amazing, with great acting, wonderful singing and lots and lots of opportunities for audience participation.  Some of our teachers were even picked to take part in a ‘dance-off’!

We enjoyed the show so much, we are hoping to book them for our Christmas Pantomime this year.  More information to follow as soon as this is confirmed.

Parent Teacher Consultations

Don’t forget that Parent Teacher Consultations (Parents’ Night) takes place on Thursday 10th November 2022.

89% of our parent/carers have already booked an appointment.  If you have not booked your appointment yet, please do so by 3.30pm on Monday 7th November 2022.

If you are unable to attend, you should still log in and mark yourself as unavailable.

The School Cloud booking system is available at https://woodhead.schoolcloud.co.uk

Full guidance on the evening and how to use School Cloud can be found here: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/sl/public/woodheadpsht/uploads/sites/14613/2022/10/21111531/ParentsEveningBooking_Nov2022.pdf

Christmas Card Enterprise

Orders for Christmas Cards must be received in school by Wednesday 9th November 2022.

Late returns may not be processed by the company in time for delivery before Christmas.

Please do not send cash to school for these – payment is by Parent Pay only.

Book Fayre Arrangements

The Scholastic Book Fayre will be in school all of this week.  All classes will have an opportunity to browse the selection by Wednesday. During the browse session, children will fill in a ‘Wish List’ of books they might like.

This is not an order form or a reservation system, nor is there any pressure for parents/carers to buy any books from the Wishlist.  It is simply a way of children to let their parent/carer know some books they might be interested in.

The only time to purchase books is during Parent/Teacher Consultations on Thursday 10th November 2022.  It will be located in Room 3 and open throughout the evening.

There are three methods of payment that we can accept on Thursday:

  • Cash
  • Book Fair Gift Vouchers: https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/gift-vouchers.
  • Online Payment: Whilst at the Book Fayre, parents/carers can log in to a website using a smart phone, make payment via Credit or Debit Card and then show receipt of this to the staff.

Please note that payment for Book Fayre cannot be made via ParentPay.  We also cannot take payment by card directly.

If a book is out of stock on the evening, it can be ordered and will be sent home as soon as it arrives in school (usually within 5-7 days).

Depending on the number of books sold, the school received approximately 60% commission to spend on new books for the school.

Non-Uniform Days

Our pupil House Captains have suggested the following themes for our Non-Uniform Days this year:

We consulted the Parent Council about these themes too, ensuring they took account of the Cost of the School Day.

The next non-uniform theme on Friday 25th November 2022 is ‘Odd Socks’ day.
