Swimming- Rookie

Hamiltion Water Palace is where I do my swimming lessons. They do not put you in  to levels , there are special names. Rookie means learning how to be a lifeguard. So far I know how to do the two proper strokes and I am finding it easy. I really enjoy swimming. Some things I know how to do are called the rope, brick, pole, pulling them to the side, how to carry them on your back, how to talk to them , how to put them in to safety position. Being a Rookie is a lot of work but I think it is a good learning experience.

Eco Week

This week  our school is participating in Eco Week.

During this week our school is trying not to use as much energy in order to save our world. We are trying to do lots of things like turn off our lights when we are not in the room and many  other things. We have special eco homework but we also have something to do  in class . We each got to pick what thing we want to do. Fortunately there were only two groups because almost everyone wanted to do the same thing. The two groups that were picked were to, create a poster about how litter can harm animals and the other was to plant mustard seeds and monitor their growth. Our homework that we have to complete in the Easter break is to buy some seeds and plant them in a biodegradable egg tray (provided by the school). When the whole school has completed their egg tray and hands it in, the school will put them out in the playground to look like a patch work garden.

So far I am enjoying Eco Week and I hope it continues . 🙂

Hockey Tournament

On Thursday 26th of March primary 6 went to Hamilton College for a hockey tournament. We were split into 3 groups. We were  playing against other primary schools. In one game group 3 won 3 nil. We all were very excited because we had been getting hockey lessons for gym. It was very tiring because we had to be fast and if we took our eye off the ball we would have lost. Everyone had a great time.

Fair Trade – Gold

Over the next two weeks our school are going to be learning about Fair Trade because it is Fair Trade Fortnight.

One of the main problems is gold mining which is the topic I am going to be focusing on.

Gold is one of the main problems because of the poison in the mines. They only do it because the need to, to survive and there also is a big demand for it.

Poem about fairtrade

I am going to tell you a poem about fairtrade.

Before Fairtrade the farmers were unhappy

Fairtrade came to help which made them happy

They don’ t  have enough money to buy food and water

You never know  they may have a wife, son or daughter.

Thank you for reading it.

Dynamic Earth Visit

On Friday the 6th of March we went to Dynamic Earth for our school trip.

Our favourite part was when we had to put on special glasses and watch a video and at one point foam came down from the ceiling down on to us.

We enjoyed touching the iceberg and seeing who could keep their hands on it for the longest.

Goodbye Mr Kettlewell :)

Hello,

Sadly, last Friday one of our teachers called  Mr Kettlewell left our school. We  enjoyed him being in our class because he made our lessons very fun and interesting. Last Thursday before he went away we had a little party in class. We had lots of food  and decorated little cupcakes and sang the  song that we liked to  sing  in  class called Run. It made us sad thinking about all the fun memories that we had with him . We also played the number game and completed it which made us all proud including Mr Kettlewell and Mrs Lobodowska. We made and painted volcanoes with them and then we got to splat paint on the volcanoes to make it look as if it had erupted. It has been absolutely excellent and an honour to have Mr Kettlewell teaching us. We certainly won’t forget him and hopefully he won’t forget us either. We would just also like to say thank you for all your hard work and our lovely gifts you gave us on Friday!

We miss you so much already Mr Kettlewell,

Thank you for reading.

Goodbye Mr Kettlewell :(

Goodbye Mr Kettlewell,

Unfortunately last Friday Mr Kettlewell, our temporary class teacher left so he could teach his own class. He was a great teacher as he introduced a lot of things we had never done before. He taught us about 2D and 3D shape, which was very interesting. He taught us about Natural Disasters and introduced us to philosophy and drama. We have done drama in the school before, but it was great doing drama with Mr Kettlewell. We had never done philosophy before and it turns out most of the class really liked it. We even have a nickname for him which is Oreo. Last Thursday was the last whole day we had with with Mr Kettlewell( as Friday was book day) so we had a little party to celebrate him leaving our class and becoming a teacher of his very own class. We were all so happy for him but were also very sad to see him go.

We are so happy for Mr Kettlewell and even though it’s only been a week, we miss him very much.

Fair Trade

Hello,

For the next two weeks it is Fair Trade fortnight. Fair Trade means to pay the farmers the right price for what they have produced. Fair Trade is really important because farmers take a long time to produce the products and they aren’t getting paid as much as they should be. Farmers sometimes have to do things to make the product that could harm them, so they really should be paid a fair price. Farmers only get paid vey little, which really isn’t  fair for the amount of work they do.

Thank you  for reading.

Fair Trade

For the next few weeks in our school it is Fair Trade week. We have been starting to learn about cotton. A lot of years ago all over the world children were forced to work in factories for hours. That is one of the reasons why Fair Trade started. Fair Trade means to pay the farmers a fair price for the product they have made. Lots of companies buy cotton from the farmers but don’t pay a fair price. The farmers spent hours making cotton and they only get paid about £1 or 50p. I really want to make a difference to the poor farmers not getting paid enough money and try and get companies to be a part of Fair Trade.

Thanks for Reading !
