Uddingston Library Trip

On Monday the 23 of February 2015 room 12 went to Uddingston Library. Linda the librarian split us in to 3 groups. The first group went to the computers and looked at books. One of the books were The Twits. The second group was with Mr Kettlewell and he gave us a booklet, pencil and a search book. We had to look up the word to find the library numbers. My friend Chloe said she loved doing it. The third and last group was to use the reference books with Mrs Lobodowska. She would give us a card and we would have to find the book and answer the question and tell Miss Lobodowska the answer.  I thought it was great fun and I would like to go back again.

Natural Disasters

Next week we are going to go to Dynamic Earth. We are learning a lot of things about Natural Disasters. Like about the earths structure. The earth has the inner core, the outer core, the mantle and the crust. Hopefully we will be able to make it to Dynamic Earth. We hope that we will learn a lot of things and that all our class will enjoy it. I hope that there will be more exciting things there and we have just been recently learning  about volcanoes. A volcano can explode by the pressure of molten rock gets to high and causes a volcanic eruption. The volcano can’t hold the magma any more, so the magma chamber explodes and lava shoots out on the ground above it.

Science – Water

For the last two weeks we have been doing experiments on water and changing state for our science topic.

Most of our experiments have been successful. There are three different categories liquids, solids and gasses. Water evaporates into gas at 100 degrees Celsius whereas water turns to solid ice at 0 degrees Celsius. It has been very interesting and exciting too, because one of our experiments was a liquid but when you put your hand in it turned into a solid.

Volcanoes

Primary 6 have been doing a topic on Natural Disasters, I have chosen to do it on volcanoes!

Volcanoes: when volcanoes erupt lava bursts out and can be very dangerous .The lava can have temperatures around 5000 degrees Celsius. When volcanoes erupt the lava can cool down and turn into rock. If it keeps erupting over a long time the rock expands and it will eventually turn into a mountain. If lava is beneath the ground it is called magma but if magma or lava is above the ground it is called lava.

Maths Shape

For the last two months primary 6 have been working on 2D and 3D shapes. We have learned so much about the properties, angles, edges, lines of symmetry, corners, faces and mathematical terms.

We have been looking at triangles, circles, polygons and squares for 2D shape. We have also looked at spheres, cubes, cuboids and other 3D shapes.
