Philosodrama

Hello.

In primary 6 we have been doing drama and philosophy, so we decided to do philosodrama. It is drama and philosophy. It is really fun. We have to ask questions and have to disagree or agree and give a reason for our thinking. I really enjoy it, it’s amazing.

Thank you for reading my blog about philososdrama.

  1. Hello Carly.
I work with Mr Kettlewell at the university and have done philosophy with children for over twenty years, so I always like hearing about new classes doing philosophy. I’ve never heard of philosodrama before. This sounds really interesting. I wonder what you think the difference is between doing philosophy using a story and doing philosophy when you start with drama.

      Hi Claire

Twenty years is a long time you must like it very much. In my class we were doing drama and philosophy so the class called it philosodrama. Its a bit different than philosophy, in philosodrama we don’t have a text. Mr Kettlewell chooses people to act out a scene, the people get told what character to act out and what the drama is about. Then everyone sits in a circle and thinks of a question. Then Mr Kettlewell chooses the best question then we start to agree or disagree. I enjoy philosodrama more than philosophy because we have to act out a scene. What do you think about philosodrama? The difference is when we have to act out a scene instead of reading a text at the start. I still like it if other people act out a scene or read the text because its interesting but I like philosodrama more.

      Thank You for the comment.

Philosodrama sounds fantastic. I wonder what Skills for Learning you are using? Have you used this in your Learning Journey?

  4. Carly-Ann, hello again. I’m sorry that I didn’t reply sooner. I didn’t receive an e-mail to say the blog had been up-dated.

You’re right, twenty years is a long time to be doing philosophy with children and adults. I have heard some interesting things and been very excited by some of the discussions, so I enjoy it. As to philosodrama, I think it sounds like fun. For me, though, the philosophy is the interesting bit because I want to hear what other people think about things to help me to be a better thinker. Being a better thinker means that I hope I am better at thinking about the world and what I do in the world and with other people. This is what I think philosophy is all about. The drama maybe helps get going with the thinking in the first place.
Good luck with your thinking and philosodrama. I love the name!
    Claire.
