In school we have been doing natural disasters as a topic. We have been learning about volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis and hurricanes. Mrs Lobodowska and Mr Kettlewell have made it a really fun topic, they took us to Dynamic Earth. It was amazing! We went back in time and we made tornadoes and earthquakes. We also did some drama on it. We made a volcano coming out of the wall and the full class helped.
I really enjoyed doing this topic!

For the next two weeks it is Fairtrade Fortnight and I am going to write about cotton.
26.4% of Benin’s exports is cotton and 58.7% of Burkina Faso’s is cotton as well. 100 Million households are engaged in cotton growing. Estimated about 300 million people work for cotton households. Cotton is the oldest commercial crop. Cotton is vital for the survival of many people in Africa and the Central and Western Asia. The farmers are nervous about the climate change affecting the crops and poor prices for seed cotton.

In class we are learning about Fair-trade cotton
In my school it is Fair Trade Fortnight and our class is learning about Fair Trade cotton. So far we have read a little bit about cotton and we know that cotton is one of the oldest and well known crops. Farmers usually get paid round about 50p for doing this work and then the company that gets the product keeps the rest. We really want to help these people and give them a fair life.

On the 26 of February 2015 I am going to Hamilton college to play in a chess tournament. I am very excited and I hope we win most of our games.
Recently we have been doing very well at the chess tournaments but some of us are going to a football tournament sadly but I think we will do fine.

On Monday the 23 of February 2015 room 12 went to Uddingston Library. Linda the librarian split us in to 3 groups. The first group went to the computers and looked at books. One of the books were The Twits. The second group was with Mr Kettlewell and he gave us a booklet, pencil and a search book. We had to look up the word to find the library numbers. My friend Chloe said she loved doing it. The third and last group was to use the reference books with Mrs Lobodowska. She would give us a card and we would have to find the book and answer the question and tell Miss Lobodowska the answer. I thought it was great fun and I would like to go back again.

Cotton
Cotton is what some farmers rely on.
Cotton is one of the oldest crops in the world and most relied on.
Some farmers work 13 hours every day and don’t get much money which means they might die because they cant afford any money to buy food.
This is getting better because they are now getting fairer trades and are making more money.
The biggest producers of cotton is from US , China and India.

Fairtrade Fortnight is St John the Baptist.
In my school we are having a Fair trade Fortnight. Fair trade is when you buy products that give a fair amount of money to the people who have grown that product.
