Natural Disasters

Next week we are going to go to Dynamic Earth. We are learning a lot of things about Natural Disasters. Like about the earths structure. The earth has the inner core, the outer core, the mantle and the crust. Hopefully we will be able to make it to Dynamic Earth. We hope that we will learn a lot of things and that all our class will enjoy it. I hope that there will be more exciting things there and we have just been recently learning  about volcanoes. A volcano can explode by the pressure of molten rock gets to high and causes a volcanic eruption. The volcano can’t hold the magma any more, so the magma chamber explodes and lava shoots out on the ground above it.

Dynamic Earth

Hello,

Next week primary 6  will be going to Dynamic Earth. I have never been to Dynamic Earth but I am looking forward to going. We are going because our topic is about natural disasters. We have being learning about floods, volcanoes and earthquakes. What I found most interesting was the earthquakes. I find it most interesting to learn about the ground when it moves and shakes. I have never seen an earthquake. I would never like to be in one. I also like volcanoes. Scotland has an extinct volcano in Edinburgh. I have climbed the extinct volcano in Edinburgh.

Tsunamis

P6 have been working on natural disasters.

Tsunamis are one of the worlds natural disasters. It is a deadly wall of water that can wipe out anything in its path. They are very hard to escape from if you are caught in one. They can kill people and wipe out cities and lots of people can be left homeless. The deadliest tsunami was the Great Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004. That was created by an earthquake that released the energy of 23,000 atomic bombs according to the U.S. and put millions of people out of homes.

France

Hello!

Room 12 has been learning about France with Mrs Lobodowska for quite a long time now, and we would like to share some of the things that we have been learning. We have been learning about what the French eat, famous landmarks, famous people and lots more. We had a showcase all about France where we learned new things and also had a lot of food for all of the mums and dads and us. We also got to dress up as a French person and it was really fun and I enjoyed doing it.  I hope we can do something like this again.

Dynamic Earth

This year we are going as a class to Dynamic Earth.

Our topic is Natural Disasters and our teacher Mr Kettlewell is letting us go to a brilliant place called Dynamic Earth, which will help us in our learning. We are learning about volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes and tornadoes. Mr Kettlewell is teaching us a lot about Natural Disasters and we are looking forward to going.

Philosophy

When Mr Kettlewell first came in to our class he told us we were going to do philosophy.

Philosophy is thinking about all different things. We do it a little different, we read a story and then we ask Mr Kettlewell questions and he picks the best question and then we debate it.

When we first started out not all of us had a clear idea about what philosophy was. At the start there were a few people that didn’t know that they would really like it, but our first session went very well and I am pretty sure most people enjoyed it.

My favourite part of it is debating about the story we have read.

Science – Water

For the last two weeks we have been doing experiments on water and changing state for our science topic.

Most of our experiments have been successful. There are three different categories liquids, solids and gasses. Water evaporates into gas at 100 degrees Celsius whereas water turns to solid ice at 0 degrees Celsius. It has been very interesting and exciting too, because one of our experiments was a liquid but when you put your hand in it turned into a solid.

Drama

Hello.

Primary 6 have been doing drama with Mr Kettlewell and it has been really fun. We have been looking at still images, improvisation and have played lots of fun games. One of the games was called creative minds. It is where you have an object in the middle of the circle and somebody needs to make a still image with the object and make it become something else. Mr Kettlewell has been doing a drama club that I go to and I am the only one from my class.

Volcanoes

Volcanoes are openings in the earth’s ground. Volcanoes shoot out lava which is magma but above the ground.

Volcanoes explode because of magma that can not escape out of the ground when the tectonic plates are moving. The magma builds up and makes a magma chamber. It can get to a point where too much magma gathers in the chamber and it can’t hold any more. It causes the explosion.
