Here are some frequently asked questions to assist you:
- Is there a charge for lessons? There is no charge for instrumental music lessons.
- How many lessons will my child receive? Your child will receive a weekly lesson, where possible.
- How will I be informed of my child’s progress? Parents will be issued with a report from your child’s IMT.
- Will my child have the opportunity to perform in bands or ensembles? Children receiving instrumental music lessons will be encouraged to take part in school ensembles and central orchestras/ensembles when they reach an appropriate standard. Pupils are also encouraged to take part in IMS live and online performances.
- Does my child need their own instrument? It is recommended that children learn using their own instrument, where possible. Your child’s IMT will offer advice on the suitability and hire of musical instruments and support materials if required.
- Does South Lanarkshire Council provide instruments and books? In most instances instruments and books are not provided.
- What will I do if I decide to stop lessons? You should cancel your child’s music tuition ‘in writing’ to the Instrumental Music Teacher.
- What arrangements will be made to continue with tuition if the Instrumental Music Teacher is absent? Absence cover will be put in place to continue your child’s lessons where possible.
- What is expected of my child? Your child will be expected to attend weekly lessons and practise regularly.
