South Lanarkshire Council’s Instrumental Music Service (IMS) is committed to harnessing the power of music to inspire, connect, and enrich the lives of young people. The IMS supports the development of musical skills, fosters creativity, and promotes confidence and resilience while encouraging collaboration and community partnership across South Lanarkshire.

The IMS delivers high-quality instrumental tuition for pupils from Primary 5 through S6 across all South Lanarkshire learning communities. Lessons are delivered in schools by professional Instrumental Music Teachers who work in partnership with Primary Head Teachers and Secondary Music Departments. Pupils may learn a variety of instruments, depending on availability, including Brass, Woodwind, Strings, Guitar, and Percussion. Our lessons enable pupils to develop technical proficiency, express creativity, and develop transferable skills such as confidence, perseverance and teamwork.
