{"id":13,"date":"2025-01-20T16:26:53","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T16:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/p62425\/?p=13"},"modified":"2025-01-20T16:26:53","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T16:26:53","slug":"primary-6-blog-january-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/p62425\/2025\/01\/20\/primary-6-blog-january-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary 6 Blog January 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello and welcome to the P6 January blog.\u00a0 We had a really busy and fun term 2 and now we are looking forward to all of the exciting things happening in term 3 (especially Lockerbie)!<\/p>\n<p>This blog has been written by Skye, Jacob\u00a0 L, Noah, Jacob B, Lailah and Jorjia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have been learning about negative numbers and took our learning outside.\u00a0 We measured the temperature on a really cold icy day.\u00a0 The temperature started at -6 in the morning and went up to 6 degrees then back down to -2 at home time.\u00a0 Some places in Scotland went down to -20!<\/p>\n<p>We had a teacher in called Mrs Gray . She\u00a0 worked with on on using multiplication to solve calculations and we worked in our fluid groups.\u00a0 \u00a0We did tasks and maths games which was really fun. We really enjoyed our visit from Mrs Gray. THANK YOU MRS GRAY!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we got a new book called THE NOWHERE EMPORIUM.\u00a0\u00a0 It is about a shop that can appear at any time in any city.\u00a0 We have only read three chapters so far but the book is very interesting and we want to keep reading to find out what happens next.\u00a0 There are 3 books in the series.<\/p>\n<p>On a Friday we have first chapter Friday where Ms Cassidy reads us the first chapter of a book to see if we think it is a book we might like to read.\u00a0 Each Friday will be a different book!<\/p>\n<p>This term we will be learning about narrative, \u00a0information report writing, \u00a0procedural and exposition writing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Social Studies\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In November we did our Victorian Assembly,\u00a0 We enjoyed dressing up as Victorians and acting as they would have back in Victorian times.\u00a0 Ms Cassidy, Mr Paterson and Mrs Kelly thought we were outstanding!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We went on a school trip to Summerlee and learned more about the Victorians &#8211; we even went down the mines!\u00a0 We are so glad we don&#8217;t need to do that in 2025!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/20101017\/Mine-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/20101017\/Mine-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/20101017\/Mine-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/20101017\/Mine.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday we had a visit from the Scottish Parliament.\u00a0 We learned all about the Scottish Parliament and the powers it has.\u00a0 We also took part in a ballot.\u00a0 We really enjoyed our visit!<\/p>\n<p>This month the whole school is learning about Scotland. We started off by looking at Scottish landscapes and painted our own .\u00a0 \u00a0In our class we are learning about Scottish traditions.\u00a0 We are learning how the Vikings influenced many of the Scottish traditions we have today.\u00a0 Hopefully\u00a0 Mrs Kelly will let us have a Burns Supper this month too \u2013 fingers crossed!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In PE with Mr Paterson we are doing rounders, we get split into the two teams one team strikes and the other fields.\u00a0 It is hard to catch the ball. We really like\u00a0 fielding as the ball can go really high and far or it can go really low it can even some times go behind you. Everyone enjoys it as it\u00a0 is really good fun.<\/p>\n<p>Last term we were really lucky to have a rugby coach from Hamilton Rugby Club work with us during outdoor PE time.\u00a0 We learned lots of skills that helped us when playing mini games of rugby.\u00a0 We loved it!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-16\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/16221933\/Rugby-1-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/16221933\/Rugby-1-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/16221933\/Rugby-1-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/p62425\/uploads\/sites\/16256\/2025\/01\/16221933\/Rugby-1-1.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With Mr Connor we were learning about gravity.\u00a0 We got a balloon and a straw then we tied the balloon to the bottom of the straw. Then we blew through the straw and let it go so it would\u00a0 float up to the ceiling.\u00a0 We learned that if you tie a straw to the bottom of a balloon when the balloon is not tied it can&#8217;t float.<\/p>\n<p>We also learned about light &#8211; like how the fastest speed it can go is 300,000km per second. We watched a video where someone was showing us that light could go around the world in a second.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Christmas Show and Pantomime<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December we did a Christmas show with P4, P5 and P7. We have different levels to work through.
