<\/p>\nWelcome to our first Primary 5 blog.\u00a0 We have settled into Primary 5 and we are enjoying all new learning and being given the leadership opportunity as Attachment Ambassadors.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n It has been a busy Term 1.\u00a0 We have been reading The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo and would like to share our opinions of the novel with you.<\/p>\n Harley: We did well. I enjoyed reading about the War and how tough it would be to live through.<\/p>\n Caled: I liked the book.<\/p>\n Leo: I thought it was good because I liked reading about the war and the school.<\/p>\n Leah: I thought it was emotional but I liked it. I really enjoyed summarising the chapter using drawings (comic strips).<\/p>\n The next novel we will be reading is Picture Perfect and we are looking forward to reading it. After this novel we will be looking at creating media at Christmas time.<\/p>\n In writing, we have been \u00a0focusing on recount writing, poetry and descriptive writing.<\/p>\n Morris: It was very good learning about narrative because we got to write a story but there is always a part that goes wrong, which we get to decide how it\u2019s fixed (or not!)<\/p>\n Florence: I quite enjoy writing headlines because they are exciting and fun to make (Newspaper articles).<\/p>\n Elliot: I feel its really good to write a recount text because its fun to write about a new title (theme) each time!<\/p>\n Hannah: I thought it was really fun to learn about narrative writing but there were some tricky parts like coming up with ideas for the plot.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Numeracy <\/strong><\/p>\n In numeracy we have been learning about\u00a0 time, shape, money, fractions,\u00a0 decimals, percentages, multiplication and division.\u00a0 Here are thoughts about our learning.<\/p>\n Arwyn: Learning about fractions, decimals and percentages was hard but the more we did it the more I understood it.<\/p>\n Daniel: Decimals are really fun because you get to do some fractions and percentages at the same time and I found it quite easy.<\/p>\n Lucy: I really liked doing multiplication because I think arrays are a really good strategy and they really helped me, but it can be a bit hard sometimes.<\/p>\n Shea: Percentages has helped with understanding real-life situations like knowing what percentage of battery I have left or helping us with jobs in the future like fixing cars (checking oil).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n IDL<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sophie: I loved learning about all the animals of the rainforest and I love how colourful and unique they all were. It was also hard skimming and scanning for information because sometimes the research was hard to find.<\/p>\n Logan: I liked learning about orangutans and gorillas and everything in the rainforest because they are native to another country.<\/p>\n Quinn: I loved learning about the animals\u2019 habitats and how they lived in different layers of the rainforest.<\/p>\n Halle: I liked learning about the layers of the rainforest and about the book \u2013 The Great Kapok tree. It was easy to learn about deforestation and it was really interesting.<\/p>\n Morris: I liked learning about the parts of rainforest and different wildlife in the rainforest because it shows there are rare species of animals that do not live in this country.<\/p>\n Harley: I liked learning about the water cycle because it shows us what is happening in the world even though we can\u2019t really see it. It blew my mind how much actually goes on in the world.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our new topic is \u00a0Home and Away and we have been learning about the country of Greece.\u00a0 Here are our thoughts.<\/p>\n Max: I liked learning about Home and Away and getting to try new foods from Greece and comparing it to Scotland.<\/p>\n Hannah: I liked learning some Greek language and I learned how to introduce myself. It was really fun because we had some dancing too.<\/p>\n Leo: I liked learning about the Greek dances and tasting the food and comparing it to Scotland.<\/p>\n Layla: I liked the games we played with Greek language and the activities were a lot of fun.<\/p>\n Caled: I loved tasting the food, I really liked the Moussaka and the Greek salad.<\/p>\n Ibrahim: I liked the food because it was interesting and new. It was better having the lesson from someone who is from Greece.<\/p>\n Health & Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n Earlier in the session we learning about the nurture principles and we went on to investigate hygiene practices when preparing food.\u00a0 We applied this knowledge to making fruit kebabs and loved doing this.<\/p>\n This term we are learning about keeping healthy through fitness and we will be creating our circuits and practising them outside as part of our outdoor PE activities.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Expressive Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n We are enjoying making and reading music as part of the Fundamentals of Music programme and we will share our talents in a few months time.\u00a0 We are lucky to have our musical theatre sessions and we look forward to sharing our learning at the Christmas Show.<\/p>\n Science<\/strong><\/p>\n We continue to enjoy Science with Mr Connor.\u00a0 Earlier in the session we investigated day and night and we created diagrams of our learning in the playground.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Welcome to our first Primary 5 blog.\u00a0 We have settled into Primary 5 and we are enjoying all new learning and being given the leadership opportunity as Attachment Ambassadors. Our Topic last term was the Rainforest and we created our own rainforest in the classroom.\u00a0 We investigated the different habitats in the rainforest and identified a range of animals that live in the rainforest.
