P3 have been so busy and it\u2019s only October! As well as all the work we have been doing in class,\u00a0 we\u2019ve also had fun days organised by the P7\u2019s and by the Eco Club, an author visit and even a visit to the church!<\/p>\n

Eco Fun Morning<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eco Club organised a fun morning to raise awareness about climate change.<\/p>\n

Lilly enjoyed making the bird feeders because \u2018it was fun to use the pine cone to collect the seed. I liked swirling it around!\u2019<\/p>\n

\"\"Lexi liked going outside to play games. She liked \u2018stacking the cans because I made a tall tower!\u2019<\/p>\n

Adeline was very impressed that we were looking after our environment by picking up litter during the Eco fun morning, she loved this activity!<\/p>\n

Carmen liked the activity in the gym hall because, \u2018it was good exercise and I was learning how to recycle.\u2019<\/p>\n

Author Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had an author visit last week from Cheef Chebe. He came to help us celebrate Black History month.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were solving puzzles and we were playing drums. They were so cool to play.\u2019 Euan<\/p>\n

\u2018I learned how three people could cross a river when one can\u2019t touch the water.\u2019 Sahan<\/p>\n

\u2018I learned how a human being can have four legs, then two and then three.\u2019 Adeline (ask them and they will tell you!)<\/p>\n

\u2018The drums were so colourful and I loved to play them because the noise was so beautiful!\u2019 Parker<\/p>\n

Church Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were invited to the church to take part in some activities about the creation story and about how we are all different and special.\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have been learning all our phonemes and common words at school and then even practising them in our jotters at home which has been making such a difference when we use them in our work. Well done everyone!<\/p>\n

Lilly was keen to say that the class have recently been\u00a0 \u2018learning about non-fiction books and doing a scavenger hunt to find the different features of a non-fiction book.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018A non-fiction books tells you facts and it can have a contents page, a glossary, an index and all these things help you to find the information you need.\u2019 Reuben<\/p>\n

We have been working on the formation of our letters and Lucy adds, \u2018We have started to join up our letters in our handwriting to make our writing neater. I love it!\u2019 And yes, she really did say that!<\/p>\n

We have been working on our recount writing. Sahan tells us, \u2018That\u2019s when you are retelling events in the right order.\u2019<\/p>\n

More recently, \u2018we have been writing about how to make a model castle and also writing descriptions of our castles. This will help me to be able to make a model castle again one day.\u2019 Euan<\/p>\n

We will continue to work on our descriptive writing over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have been working on place value, estimating and rounding, multiplication, addition and subtraction, measurement, capacity and shape.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2018We were estimating where numbers went on our number lines to 100.\u2019<\/p>\n

Alana<\/p>\n

Adeline tells us, \u2018I\u2019ve been learning different strategies of how to add and subtract. Learning how to subtract 9 by subtracting 10 and adding the one back on is really helpful.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We have started to do silver, gold and platinum challenges. You choose the level you want to work at.\u2019 Alana<\/p>\n

Ashton, \u2018likes the hard questions in Platinum.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018When you are taking away, the number at the start is the biggest number and the other two numbers are smaller but they can add to make the first number.\u2019 Alana<\/p>\n

We are regularly using a new resource called Numicon and it has been very popular! \u2018Numicon is really good at helping me work out my sums when I am working with the bigger numbers.\u2019\u00a0 Billie tells us.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were measuring the leaves outside and putting them in order.\u2019 Kye<\/p>\n

Knight and Castles Topic<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our topic this term has been very popular and has been inspiring trips to castles. Carmen went to Stirling Castle and even brought pictures in to show us\u2026\u2019I saw the cannons and the arrow slits and the crenelated\u00a0 walls and I knew why they were there.\u2019<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"Jessica C. tells us, \u2018we made model castles and it was great fun because you got to make your own castle with historic features and you got to know what happened in the past and it felt more real.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I loved making my own mini castle and even made my own mini figures to go inside.\u2019 Ebony<\/p>\n

\u2018I know the history of the castle now.\u2019\u00a0 Adeline<\/p>\n

Billie says, \u2018I liked that we were making castles with a drawbridge and a flag on a pole.\u2019<\/p>\n
