P3 Class Blog May 2025

First,  the boys and girls wanted to look back to our recent class ‘Fruity’ assembly. The class received so many compliments for doing so well and making it such a fun assembly.  We hope you all enjoyed watching it as much as the boys and girls enjoyed doing it!

Amelia said that she, ‘was excited to say my words and I liked when the jokes were.’

Kye thought, ‘it was funny because I especially liked Adeline’s bit because I like bananas and monkeys.’  Adeline mentioned that she really enjoyed  her part because she liked telling everybody about her favourite memory.

Jessica C. said that she, ‘liked all the fruity colours we were wearing. I liked my part because it was funny and now I know what it’s like to be a teacher.’  You made it look very easy Jessica! Feel free to take over any time!  Sahan especially liked, ‘when Jessica got the teacher’s lanyard. I thought that was really funny.’

Carmen thought it was ‘lots of fun’ because of all the dances and singing.  Lilly mentioned that she felt ’emotional because I was a bit scared to talk in front of the whole school.’   We would never have guessed that you were feeling nervous Lilly, because you seemed so confident.  Well done to you and Ebony for being such good quiz masters!

I have to agree with Jessica C.  when she added that, ‘Everybody did a great job!’

Abigail reported that it was fun after the assembly because ‘we had an extra playtime and we even got to try some fruits again.’  You all earned it!

IDL

Our IDL topic last term was ‘Where our Food Comes From’. The children enjoyed learning about how the food we eat gets from the farm to the fork. This was a great opportunity to look at the geography of the world and also the logistics of how this is possible. It also led us to look at Fairtrade and how some farmers are not paid a fair price for what they sell.

The children were particularly interested in fruit and that led us to tasting a variety of different fruits as many had said they didn’t know what some of them tasted like. And this of course led us to our assembly…

The children thought the fruit was super tasty but not only this, we then went on to complete lots of different activities. We made a bar chart to show which was our favourite fruit…. and that was mangos!

We wrote a set of instructions for how to make a fruit salad and also completed an information report on our favourite fruit.

We then painted fruit and made posters with words that described the fruit. Carmen said, ‘ It was fun trying to draw all the different fruit shapes.’

Abigail was so inspired by our ‘fruity’ learning that she brought in a fruit salad as part of her healthy lunch. Well done Abigail!

Sustainability Lesson

In March our super Eco Team led a lesson about Sustainability and planting seeds, the whole school were being taught the same lesson at the same time.

Jessica D. said she thought, ‘Kayden was really funny’ and she thought it was great that he had said he loved doing his job as part of the Eco Team.  ‘We got to learn about sustainability and that it is good to plant different plants.’ Jessica C. added.

The Eco Team wanted to tell the class about why it’s important to plant different kinds of flowers and plants. At the end, Adeline was able to say, ‘Bees love flowers and they are pollinators. So that’s why we planted flowers.’ Good listening, Adeline!

Alana reported that her plant is ‘quite big now and we have planted it in my garden.’ Well done Alana!

Literacy

The children have been excited about their new class novel ‘The Diary of a Killer Cat’.  Abigail tells us that the main character ‘Tuffy the cat  doesn’t listen to his owners and he creeps about in his garden looking for birds and mice to pounce on. ‘

Billie says the book is a ‘really good, funny story so far. I like the way Tuffy gives his owners ‘the blink’ because he’s cheeky.’

Here are some World Book Day photos.  This was a fun day when we made book marks, listened to stories and read books in the ‘Read and Relax’ areas in the hall.  This is when we made our fruit salad after we had all read ‘Oliver’s Fruit Salad’.  This was a story about a boy who didn’t realise he liked fruit until he made a fruit salad for himself. This fitted in perfectly with our topic!

As part of ‘Equality and Diversity’ week the children also completed a series of lessons on a book titled ‘King Cat’. This book and it’s lessons were also delivered to another two schools in our Learning Community and at the end of the week we took part in a Google Meet involving all of the schools. This was a great way to showcase all our work and was much enjoyed by all the children.  Lexi liked ‘colouring in and making the crowns. I added gems  which had words that described how you would act if you were a queen or a king.’

Maths

Christopher wanted to say that he has been, ‘learning to do Algebra and it is fun!’

I really like algebra because you can work out the missing number by using the numbers you have been given to help you work out the sum

Lillie-Mae added that, ‘I like Algebra because when you get the hang of it, it is actually quite easy.’ You’re right Lillie- Mae, and I know that others were agreeing with you there.

The children have been practising their times tables. Kaiden says, ‘I like counting in 5’s because that it can help me with my 5 times table.’ So true, Kaiden!

Ebony added that she ‘liked counting in 10s, and in bigger numbers like 20s. It helps me to count up to big numbers and add too.’

Lucy mentioned that ‘the 4 times table was tricky but when we practised we got better.’ You did indeed, Lucy, practice makes perfect. Lucy worked on this at home and even worked with her big sister to make a fantastic poster for the class. Well done!

The class have been working with Mrs Cullie on time, so don’t forget to ask your children the time on analogue and digital clocks to keep practising.  Carmen said that ‘when my Mum lets me go out to play I now know when to come in because we have been learning time.’ You are right Carmen, it’s an important skill to have and it can be very helpful.

The class are now looking at symmetry and they are going to do some revision on 3D shape.

PE

The class had been covering ball handling skills and then they played various games using these skills.

Kye says, ‘It is fun to throw the ball around to our partners. I like using the chest pass best.’ Billie liked the chest pass too and tells us that ‘ if you push it hard the ball will go further and go flying!’ Alana also liked the ball skills and learning different ways to pass the ball.

Amelia loves P.E ‘because I really love running when we play tig to warm up. It is good for you because it makes you strong.’

Lilly likes playing ‘different types of tig because it’s fun and good for you.’ And Jessica C. likes ‘to play Shark Attack, especially when I get to be the shark.’

We were also creating a variety of different exercises to complete in a circuit during Outdoor PE. Lucy enjoyed ‘the circuit training we did outside’ because it was making her ‘fitter, ready for playing football.’

As part of the ‘King Cat’ lessons we also took part in a range of Health and Wellbeing activities including some yoga. One of the class, Adeline, helped to deliver this lesson. Well done Adeline, you were super!
